Building and Sustaining Spaces + Movements
Dear Friends,

How do we ensure that the projects we build are sustained? Joanna Bartholomew, Founder and CEO of O’Hara Development Partners, emphasizes that everything comes back to the power of community--who builds and sustains these foundations matter.

On that note, scroll down below to read more about how Joanna sees the intersection of real estate and community empowerment. Many folks we know (including us!) are also seeking new talent to help steward and structure the next phase of their work in Baltimore and beyond. You'll also find the latest on new and key assets around the city, plus our regular roundup of reads and resources.

Share Your Thoughts! (Building Movement Project)
In 2019 the Building Movement Project (BMP) launched the second iteration of their Race to Lead survey, which collected responses from over 5K nonprofit staff on their experiences of race and leadership in nonprofit sector. This dataset, combined with the data collected in BMP's 2016 survey, serves as the backbone to the 2020 report, Race to Lead Revisited: Obstacles and Opportunities in Addressing the Nonprofit Racial Leadership Gap.

Now, BMP, the T. Rowe Price Foundation, Baltimore’s Promise, and others are partnering to release a survey geared specifically towards nonprofit professionals working and based in the Baltimore area. This survey is intended to shine a spotlight on the experiences of staff in the local sector; examine trends around race, leadership, and equity; and offer recommendations and opportunities to confront the racial leadership gap and advance equity. Help us collect data on this important issue area! Complete this survey and spread the word below!
