A Word From Ms. Molly

Dear friends,

I could never have predicted a single minute of 2020...and I am humbly aware that the coronavirus pandemic is not yet over. Thank you to each one of you who reached out with private expressions of support after our summer camp ended early. I commend my staff, each of whom was trained by DHEC prior to the summer and were swift to report that symptoms of COVID-19 were present.

As we look to the new school year, be assured we will continue the COVID-19 protocols that kept our Virtual Hub safe last year.

During this pandemic, we have never lost sight of our mission. Through great adversity, we are committed to enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Thank you for believing in our work, and supporting us in this difficult hour.

The Boys & Girls Club of Bluffton invites you to celebrate the young people who will one be the leaders of the town of Bluffton! By hosting ONE EPIC HOUSE PARTY, you will be investing in the next generation of leadership for our community. As host, you invite the guests and we provide the party!

The evening will include a catered dinner for eight, a silent auction accessible online, a video presentation and tour of the Boys & Girls Club of Bluffton, a special dessert cocktail demonstration and a demonstration by Chefs Christopher & Bethany Hewitt of Southern Graces on how to build an EPIC charcuterie board. Our presenting sponsor, Southern Graces Catering, provides EVERYTHING you need to host an EPIC House Party - and wow your guests!

Summer fun...that is educational! Our literacy team brought the Olympics to summer camp - and the campers loved it! In keeping with our theme, "Rise Up to Greatness," students explored the many nations participating in the Olympics and read books about Japan and the Olympic Games. (Many had never tried using chopsticks before - see below!)

Garden Club Update

Throughout the spring, Jim Lorenz, Connie Bird and Jeanne Fisher dedicated countless hours to the BGC Bluffton Garden so that young minds and hearts could learn about the fruits of nature this summer!

Thank you to our volunteers teaching young people how to garden!

It's not too late to get your tickets for the Par Fore Kids golf tournament on September 13, 2021. Mulligans and contests are included in this great price to enjoy the May River Golf Course at Palmetto Bluff! Sponsorships are also available!

Congratulations to the Explorers' L.E.A.D. Boot Camp Graduates!

Thank you to the Bluffton Police Department for partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Bluffton to plan and implement this program. Thank you so much to America's Boating Club, the Outdoor Foundation and the Hilton Head Civil Air Patrol for organizing enriching field trips for our Explorers!

Most of all, thank you to the Berkeley Hall Charitable Foundation for providing financial support for this program, investing in the next generation of Bluffton leaders!

The Dwaine Willett Career Launch program has been meeting remotely via Zoom. On July 27, they received an excellent course on financial literacy from Ms. Tameka Reed, Vice President for Community Development Specialist II at PNC Bank. Thank you to Ms. Reed for supporting the Dwaine Willett Career Launch program. We also thank PNC Bank for providing a grant to support technology upgrades in 2020 for our Virtual Hub.
