UW–Madison leaders, innovators and partners will join the slate of entrepreneurial events presented during annual Forward Fest

The five virtual events include a three-event “Biotech Spotlight” series, which will focus on aspects of startups, tech and innovation within the biotech space. Combining low-dose radiotherapy with immunotherapy eradicates metastatic cancer in mice

University of Wisconsin–Madison and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine scientists report today in the journal Science Translational Medicine that combining targeted radiopharmaceutical therapy with immunotherapy significantly boosts eradication of metastatic cancer in mice, even when the radiation is given in doses too low to destroy the cancer outright.

Arosa and WARF Venture Funds lead financing to expand Pyran, Inc.

 Pyran, Inc., a high-growth company that creates high-performing 5-carbon products made from renewable resources, today announced that it has closed its latest round of fundraising, bringing its total of investments and grants to nearly $4 million. The investment comes from lead investor, Arosa Capital, with support from the venture arm of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF).

After COVID-19 Successes, Researchers Push to Develop mRNA Vaccines for Other Diseases

In 1990, the late physician-scientist Jon Wolff and his University of Wisconsin colleagues injected mRNA into mice, which caused cells in the mice to produce the encoded proteins. In many ways, that work served as the first step toward making a vaccine from mRNA.

Computer Sciences embraces interest and demand, and grows by 800%

In the last ten years, the Computer Sciences Department, part of the School of Computer, Data and Information Sciences (CDIS), has seen a meteoric rise in the number of undergraduate major declarations. This spring, the department reached an unprecedented milestone by surpassing 2,000 majors, experiencing an increase of over 800% since 2011.
