 Beyond Plastic Free July

After a month of refusing single-use plastics, it’s easy to see why we need to make some changes.  Plastic is everywhere.

Throughout the month of July, we learnt that with a little pre-planning, replacing everyday plastic items can be quite simple.

For example, you can replace your plastic toothbrush with one made from bamboo and even make your own toothpaste! Watch this video for the recipe.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the challenge, small changes can make a big difference.

 Welcome, Debbie!

Family Day Care is an excellent choice for personalised, flexible and quality childcare.

Our qualified educators are part of a professional network, continuously learning from each other and sharing ideas.

Earlier this year we were delighted to welcome Debbie Clark to our team. Debbie comes with 32 years of experience and her Renwick service focuses on play-based learning and nature play.

While getting to know each other, Children in Debbie’s care have been learning about sustainability – from home composting to edible gardens, she’s got it covered!

Congratulations and welcome to the team, Debbie.

 Bushfire rates relief extension

During the week the NSW Government announced that they would help fund a further six months of council rate relief for residents who lost their properties during the 2019/20 Black Summer bushfires.

Across our Shire, we sadly lost more than 70 houses across our northern and southern villages.

Since the fires Council has waived more than $266,000 in rates for our hardest-hit residents.

If you were impacted by the bushfires and need help, call our Bushfire Recovery Hotline on 1800 316 500 or visit our website.

 Local Government Elections postponed…

The Minister for Local Government has this week announced that all Local Government Elections across the State, including our Shire’s, have been postponed until Saturday 4 December.

The elections were to have been held in early September but the Minister made the decision to move the date in light of the unfolding Covid-19 situation.

The three-month postponement is in addition to the original 12-month deferment announced at the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

The health and safety of everyone is paramount and discussions continue with NSW Health and the NSW Electoral Commission as to how the re-scheduled elections can safely proceed.

We’ll keep you posted should any further changes or announcements be made by the Minister or the State Government.
