August

In this newsletter you will see we have many events planned for August through to October, including:  We will keep you updated to any changes to these events, guided by the latest restrictions. Don't forget - if your community is in lockdown or unable to gather for worship, there are resources to help you remain connected with one another and God. Check them out here.

As the weather warms, the skies brighten and all the earth awakens to spring may you know the hope of God.

Peace,
Jenni, Neryl and Anne

Reflection

Even a lockdown couldn’t disturb the July Book Club as we engaged in lively and broad ranging discussion about Hugh Mackay’s The Kindness Revolution. We explored his ideas and suggestions as to how to restore hope, trust and optimism in Australian society and in our context in our church and in our worship. Kindness, we were reminded, lies at the heart of civil society, it holds communities and institutions together and is an antidote to cynicism and indifference, and it is our kindnesses and the kindness of others that will endure into the future.

One last chance to go on a tour!

Artists from all around South Australia and beyond have shared theological reflection through art and transformed the Synod office building. Come and see the artwork before the exhibition ends on 17 August. Tours conducted by Dieter Engler, Karan Hudson and Neryl McCallum.
Tours are free but registrations are essential.
Register here.

Change of date!

Due to the current restrictions in singing, we have changed the Music and Worship workshop to 23 October.*
Place and times remain the same.

Music has always played a role in worship, from the Israelites living in Exile to the Psalms to the church gathering together in Colossae to Gregorian chant to Wesleyan hymns to the pop rock of Hillsong, singing and music has been a way for people to meet with and offer praise and prayer to God.
Music is important in worship, it can enliven and deepen worship, and it can do the opposite. What we sing shapes our theology and our knowledge of God.
This full-day workshop will enable church musicians to gather together to engage in conversation, share experiences and ideas and resources. It offers an opportunity for church musicians to contemplate the how and why of having music in worship and their own practise.

When: Saturday 23rd October, 10am - 4pm

Where: Rosefield Uniting Church
