Dara Lohnes-Davies, collections manager was recently featured in the Conserv blog. Dara was interviewed about her job and the experience she's had with Conserv's Wireless Environmental Monitoring for Museums. These monitors are now run on Bluetooth and send live updates to Dara about the environment in the museum. Real time updates will help identify issues within the building faster than before, helping assist the collections care.

"Summer Art Camp was a huge success! Our campers were so curious about all of the jobs here at the Art Museum. They even noticed the insect monitors in the classroom and made sure to check them each day when they arrived at camp," says Jennifer Smith, Master Teacher. "We just had to ask our lovely collections manager, Dara Lohnes-Davies, for a special behind the scenes tour and she obliged! On the last day of camp, she came and talked to campers about bugs, showed them collections and the freight elevator. The elevator might have been their absolute favorite. They screamed like they were on a rollercoaster ride for the first time!"

Exhibitions Team
In July, director and chief curator Nicole Crawford and curator Michelle Sunset traveled to Florida to visit Harold Garde, prolific artist and University of Wyoming alumnus. They viewed his latest series of work, learned about his studio practice, and were regaled with stories of attending art school at UW in the 1940s. Garde's work is on view in the current exhibitions Something's Off and Reframing Identity.

Art Within Reach: Bring the Museum to You
Looking for ways to visit the museum? Now we can come to you.

When you book one or two of our signature programs--

we bring original art to your Wyoming location.
The Ann Simpson Artmobile Program works like an extended field trip in your community. The Artmobile Educator transports and installs an art exhibition at your location and facilitates educational activities with groups whom you serve. The Artmobile Educator brings art materials and a myriad of activities for all ages and abilities. This art exhibition and activities are free to Wyomingites. The only cost is lodging for the Artmobile Educator while at your location.

We cover insurance and provide you with the resources you need to publicize the exhibition in your community. The RTEX Curriculum and Activities Guide offers suggestions for ages 3-103 that you can use to engage with the exhibition. RTEX comes to Wyoming organizations, for only the cost of one-way shipping to the next location.

Plein Air in the Park
Saturday, August 28, 2021, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site
$5 to participate in the whole event, workshop is included.

Plein Air in the Parks is a collaborative event, presented this year by Wyoming State Parks, the Wyoming Arts Council, the Cody Country Art League, Laramie Artists Project, and the University of Wyoming Art Museum.

Join the UW Art Museum for a youth plein air workshop to explore foundations of capturing outdoor scenes. You’ll get a chance to explore artist techniques and materials in a small sketchbook and, of course, create your own plein air drawing or painting based on our very own Laramie River Corridor and the Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site. Supplies such as various surfaces (paper, board, some canvas), sketchbook, and art mediums (drawing, watercolor) are included in this workshop.
