SBAIC | Growing U.S. Small Businesses Globally

N E W S L E T T E R

July 2021

Dear SBAIC Members,

I hope that this newsletter finds you all well and the second quarter has been successful!

In this edition of SBAIC’s membership newsletter, we are excited to share with you the incredible work that our members are doing around the world with regards to the world of human rights initiatives. The newsletter articles share amazing success stories of our small business members supporting a wide range of U.S. Government agencies and NGOs. From evaluating human trafficking and gender activities in Bangladesh to developing tools for incorporating women’s economic empowerment and equality in current and future USAID programming, it is clear that our members are taking innovative approaches to human rights-related problem-solving. Please take the time to learn more about the great work that our members are doing across the globe.

As an update to SBAIC members and our partners, our organization recently underwent some leadership transitions. At the last SBAIC Board meeting, the Board approved Peter Karenge Nganga (B360) as Vice Chair of SBAIC’s Executive Committee. I am excited to have Peter support me with oversight, including working closely with the Outreach, Procurement and Membership Committees. In addition, the Board approved Emily Marks (Connexus) as the new part-time Member Services Coordinator, who is being trained in by Tim Azizkhan this month. Please join me in congratulating Peter and Emily for their new support roles and thanking Tim for his excellent service to SBAIC over the past year.

Recently, SBAIC held an online Vendor Fair, which was supported by three Diamond level sponsors: Capital Bank Maryland; Premier Consulting & Integration LLC (PCI); and Northwestern Mutual; in addition to one of our SBAIC members AidKonekt Data.
If SBAIC members and partners are interested, the organization is now planning an in-person Vendor Fair for October as well as other sponsorship opportunities. This could be a great way to market your business while supporting SBAIC. For more information about sponsorship options, please reach out to SBAIC Treasurer, George Papadapoulos (gp@brontidellc.com).

In the next few months, SBAIC has a few events scheduled, including:

  • July 22 – Matchmaking session with ACDI/VOCA
  • August 3 – Membership meeting and networking, with guest speaker from DT Global, a large USAID contractor that assumed AECOM’s international development portfolio.
  • August 19 – Matchmaking session with Chemonics International
  • October 5 – In person Membership meeting and Vendor Fair at TetraTech’s office in Arlington!
  • October 7 – Training: “USAID Funding: How to Enter and Grow in the USAID Market”

For more information on these events, please see https://members.sbaic.org/events.

SBAIC is also excited to have partnered with GSA-USAID OASIS Interest Group (OSIG) to hold a live in-person golf tournament in November! It is a “best ball” tournament, so no golf experience is required. If you are interested in getting involved with planning, please contact Peter Karenge (petern@b360inc.com) and copy Emily Marks (memberservices@sbaic.org).

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Communications Committee Co-Chairs Janine Karo (Jefferson Solutions) and Larry Ott (ME&A) for managing the publishing of this newsletter. We would also like to thank Asmaa Idrisu (Inceptima) for her time served as Co-Chair of the Communications Committee, from which she recently stepped down.

Remember, this is YOUR quarterly newsletter. It is your readership, your timely quality input and your thoughtful discourse that make the publication a valuable and engaging communications tool, reasserting SBAIC’s role as an influential organization working and advocating on behalf of U.S. small businesses. Therefore, I strongly encourage you to submit articles and relevant updates from work on SBAIC committees.

Sincerely,

Anita Campion
SBAIC Executive Committee Chair
