Hello PLIX community!

Summer is upon us northern-hemisphere folk... finally! Catch up on upcoming workshops, a call for beta-testers, and some updates from our team and community members below. 😎

☀️ Summer 2021 Workshops

This summer we're excited to be hosting one community call and three activity meetups. All sessions happen on Zoom and meet on Thursdays 12:00-1:00pm ET. Head to our site to learn more and RSVP!

👋 PLIX Community Call | June 17

Join us for a PLIX community call! We'll share updates about the new PLIX activities and projects under development.

🌱 Urban Ecology | July 15

In this session, you'll have a chance to learn about the soil in your neighborhood using our Urban Ecology Activity Series

🐞 Beautiful Symmetry | August 12

For our first-ever session about the Beautiful Symmetry activity, we'll use symmetrical elements found in nature to create textiles and sculptures.

🎈 Inflatables | September 16

During this session, we’ll start planning for the Summer 2022 reading theme, "Oceans of Possibilities," by making some inflatable ocean critters.

🎧 Listen to PLIX!

Last month, PLIX hosted its first-ever Facilitating Creative Learning online course. It gave us an opportunity to try some new formats for engagement with our community, including audio! Today, we’re sharing our new series of informal, audio-only chats, or as we call them, Conversation Starters. Head to our blog to read more and tune in!

Our Week 2 Conversation Starter with Luigi Anzivino and Katherine McConachie.

✨ Call for Beta-testers

Starting this month, we're sending out materials to a small cohort of librarians to beta-test our in-development PLIX Beautiful Symmetry activity! This activity offers patrons a chance to explore a branch of mathematics that's profound yet accessible to creative learners.

As a beta-tester, you'll help us to refine our workshop materials, create examples and remixes, and provide feedback to the PLIX team to improve the activity before it's released to the broader community! To learn more about the co-designers of the activity, check out our blogposts on Claudia Haines and Jean Slavkovsky.

🌎 From the Forum

As always, we've had lots of great ideas and discussions in the forum recently! Some highlights:

Have you run a PLIX activity? Let us know how it went by posting about it in the forum or tagging us @heyplix on Twitter and Instagram!
That's all for now. See you later this month at the community call!
