Discover Monadnock's wealth of talented artists!

The big day is nearly here and we're excited! Tomorrow, July 28, Arts Alive! and the Keene Sentinel join to present the seventh annual Ruth and James Ewing Arts Awards. We'll celebrate the winners (see them listed below!) at a ceremony at 6pm at the Showroom, The Colonial Performing Arts Center's new venue in the Commercial St. lot in downtown Keene. We hope you'll choose an option below to watch the livestream!

Two viewing options this year!

A Watch Party!

Since we're amid an in-between time of caution and open venues, we have created a Watch Party to be held at Brewbakers. Dress up or not. Come to watch the livestream of the awards ceremony among friends and cheer on the world-class artists who are the 2021 winners. While there you might enjoy dinner or a beverage! Seating is limited so free reservations are required.

By recognizing world-class artists in the Monadnock region, we aim to bring awareness and appreciation to the rich and vibrant arts scene in the Monadnock region. Winners are selected by a committee of local artists some of whom include past winners.

These awards are made to local artists who, through the quality of their work, demonstrate merit and make important statements as artists. These awards are not meant to reflect "the best" work done in this region, rather, to highlight excellence. Emphasis is also made on how an artist gives back to his or her profession or community.

The awards are named in honor of the late Ruth and James Ewing, who made many contributions to the local arts community through their stewardship of The Keene Sentinel and through personal philanthropy. Both Ewings were directors at the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough. James founded the New Hampshire Humanities Council and established the James D. Ewing World Affairs Lecture at Keene State. Ruth was active with the Center for Chamber Music at Apple Hill and the Grand Monadnock Arts Council.

If you value the arts and would like to support our efforts please donate to Arts Alive! or become a member today. Members belong to the region's arts support organization and sustain an organization that advocates for and enriches the arts community. Arts Alive! receives funding from the Putnam Foundation, C&S Wholesale Grocers, The Hoffman Family Foundation, New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, its board of directors, several individual and business donors and almost 100 artist and arts organization members.
