Diversity and Social Justice

July - August 2021

Dear DSJ Colleague,

When I began this role last year, a friend gifted me a copy of The Courage to Teach and slid inside it a printout of Students Learn From People They LoveIt goes without saying that we live in unconventional and tumultuous times. However, we all continue to experience acts of courage and love in our personal and professional circles, on social media from our communities and throughout the world, or on campus and inside our classrooms.

As we renew our commitment to this mission and get ready to embark on another journey in a few weeks, let us find courage in centering love at the heart of our teaching.  Whether through our methods and practices or syllabus content, let us carve out space where we - along with our students - reframe learning about diversity and social justice, and approach it from a lens of hope.

Please do not hesitate to connect if I can be of support at this point or throughout the semester. Stay tuned for our monthly updates, and I hope you'll be able to join our conversations around DSJ learning this year.

We got this!
