A Note from The Coordinating Council Chair

Dear DaySpringers,

Whether you’re here in Waco or afar, I hope this note finds you well. As part of our Quarterly Meeting on Sunday, we discussed quite a few upcoming initiatives for the church. I’ll share some of the highlights with you here.

Platform Renovation: As we continue to make improvements to the lighting and sound in the sanctuary, the time has come to repair and update sound panels that are only accessible if we tear up the existing platform/stage at the front of the church. This has been the impetus for a new platform that would allow accessibility long-term, while also providing the opportunity to reimagine and enlarge the focal point of our sanctuary. Those gathered at our meeting voted unanimously to move forward with the renovation, and a team will soon gather to determine the design.

This fall we can also look forward to a new “Season of Creation,” which will shape our spiritual formation, worship, and care of the newly acquired 6 acres around our church campus. Thank you to all who have responded to the survey on Spiritual Practices, Creation Care, and Church Grounds. If you haven’t yet, please share your input here (or on our newly designed website!) by August 5. How blessed we are to have incredible grounds that shape our worship and lives!

The Dayspring Chart, our commitment to serve the church and each other, will be available beginning in August this year. Whether you’re well-versed in the chart or you a rookie, stay tuned for more details!

Finally, as COVID-19 numbers are on the rise in Central Texas, the council and church staff will closely monitor trends. We are prepared to “pivot” once again and welcome your feedback throughout the fall.

After Sunday’s meeting, we heard an update from Tiffani on the status of the ministry to immigrants and hospitality house. Click here to watch a video of that discussion.

No matter where you are today, I wish you well and look forward to connecting with you soon.

Warmly,
Erin Stamile
Church Council Chair

Sunday Worship Service

Worship meets at 11 am in person in the sanctuary and live stream on YouTube.

This Sunday, August 1, will be Jonathan Pinto's last Sunday at DaySpring.  After several years as a DaySpringer, youth volunteer, and Pastoral Associate, Jonathan has accepted a call to First Baptist Church of Dalton, Georgia to serve as the Minister to Senior Adults and Church Pianist.

Centering Prayer

Join Candy and Les Neugebauer on Wednesday mornings in the Stokes Chapel at 9:00 am. In Centering Prayer, we have a short reading followed by silence. If you have not experienced centering prayer before, we will offer a brief introduction and share sources for you to explore. For questions, contact Les Neugebauer.

We Need More Sunday School Teachers - Please Read

If you've considered teaching, please email Amy today.

Better yet, first reach out to a friend and ask if they'd like to teach with you and then email Amy! Teaching Sunday school is a great way to connect with children and adults alike.

Here's what we need:
  • Baby Room - Rock and play with our youngest
  • 3 and 4-year-olds - In order to have a 3 y.o. and pre-K 4/5 class, we need 3 more people!
  • 2nd /3rd/4th Grade - If you're curious about Godly Play and want to learn from Carroll Crowson and Victor Hinojosa, this opportunity is for you.
  • 5th/6th Grade - If you have a heart for "tweens" and want to study the lectionary texts before worship, this class is right for you.

Welcome Home,  Passport Campers!

We had a wonderful time learning how to HEAR and JOIN God's story and ACT and WRITE our part as followers of Jesus. Two of Passport's rules were to participate fully and have fun. There wasn't a camper or chaperone who needed reminding of either. Thank you for your prayers and encouragement to all of us and look forward to Passport 2022!

Creative Expressions: Seeing God Through Nature

Tonight is our last Expressions class of the summer. We will display the children's artwork in the Narthex on August 1 and 8 for the congregation to enjoy. Mark your calendars for September 8 for our next Wednesday evening children's formation class.

As opposed to a weeklong VBS or Kids on Mission experience, this summer's schedule allowed weekly in person connection with children after a year of limited in-person classes. Offering classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays helped keep class sizes small while also encouraging as many children as possible to participate. If you're interested in helping with next summer's children's formation, whether a weeklong or summerlong experience, be on the lookout for chart sign ups next month!

Amy will resume the Children and Family Newsletter on August 19th.

Sunday's Proposal for a Hospitality House

A steering team made up of 11 DaySpringers met throughout the summer researching and planning to be able to present to the congregation Sunday evening a proposal that the church consider embracing a ministry to immigrants in the form of a hospitality house. You can read the proposal here. Please join us in prayer about this exciting ministry opportunity.

You are also invited to join some of us via zoom on Tuesday evenings to read through scripture and pray as we discern DaySpring’s involvement with the Naomi house. If you are interested in participating, please contact Joy Alexander at  for the Zoom link.
