In this month's newsletter, we pay homage to our donors and show how much have we already and continue to achieve in the future thanks to the support of kind people. Also, if you yourself or you know someone who has been discriminated because of who they are, feel free to contact us for help! See more from the newsletter! And lastly, we share FRA's latest report on tackling hate crimes in Europe.

So, go lie on the grass or swing comfortably in a hammock and have a good read! As there's still so much summertime ahead of us, we hope everyone's getting the chance to rest, swim a lot, travel and enjoy festivals responsibly, and soak in the sunshine.

The Centre works every day to make Estonia even more open and respectful of everyone. Donations help the Centre fight hatred, injustice and discrimination.

With the help of donors, we defend the safety of Mohammed's family life and stand up for freedom of expression in court as well as have helped many cohabiting families, including fighting for the love of Darja and Jana and the rights of Marina and Jelena's family. In December, with the support of donations, we will issue the tenth human rights report, which is a reliable tool for professionals, an important educational material in schools and a useful source of information on human rights for everyone who's interested. Do you believe you have experienced inequality due to your nationality, age, gender, skin colour, religion or belief, disability or sexual orientation? Feel free to contact the Estonian Human Rights Centre for help!

We can provide initial legal advice, but in socially important cases, we are ready to help people with going to court and during subsequent court proceedings. We fully support the person in need throughout the process and clarify the legal aspects of the litigation.

Our services are free. Legal aid is provided by the Centre’s lawyers and experienced attorneys from law firms.

The Centre at Vikervelo: Each of us can stand up for LGBT rights

"Each of us can stand up for LGBT rights. Don't ignore it when you see injustice and stand up for the protection of minorities!" said Uljana Ponomarjova, a lawyer at the Centre, in her speech at Vikervelo. In addition, she drew attention to the bottlenecks of Estonian legislation, due to which equal rights and freedoms are not guaranteed to all Estonian people.

The Tallinn Pride bicycle regatta Vikervelo in support of a fair, equal and inclusive society took place on July 2.

FRA: Report hate crime, support victims!

In its new report, EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) calls on EU countries to encourage hate crime reporting, improve its recording and ensure victims can get support, protection and justice.

“The Human Rights Centre has been saying for years that the current penal code in Estonia inhibits the courage and willingness of victims to report hate crimes. We are convinced that the Riigikogu must include the motive of hatred among the aggravating circumstances of the punishment of the crime. This would encourage victims to talk about what has happened to them, help them gain support and justice, and motivate the police to register hate crimes. This, in turn, would give the state a better picture of the seriousness of the problem and help us to fight the hatred more skillfully,” said Egert Rünne, the director of the Human Rights Centre.

Baltic Pride 2021 takes place on August 7 and offers loads of awesome events.
