From the NDA Office

July Greetings,

I want to share a BIG thank you to Christy Mergen and Liz Flom for their work in applying for the Federal P-EBT benefits. The process was complicated and time consuming; however, we worked through the process and have great news. Our families who applied and qualified for Free and Reduced lunches during the 2020-2021 school year will receive $430 electronic debit cards for each child in their family who attends Notre Dame Academy. They will arrive at your houses in late August or early September.

As an NDA Catholic family, each day we live our purpose of helping our students to learn and grow in a safe environment. This was never more evident in the crazy but ‘in person’ school year we experienced last year. We are preparing for this upcoming school year with positive hopes and intentionality making decisions to address each student’s needs.

We are carefully considering all research and valuable information available to us as well as the Archdiocese recommendations as we prayerfully discern best decisions for our NDA family in the new school year.

We will share more information next week keeping in mind that the COVID situation is fluid, and we know that we may need to make changes during the school year to continue to best care for our community.

With gratitude for your dedication to Notre Dame Academy,

Dr. Bonita Jungels

Bus Requirement Update
State Directors,
The CDC has confirmed the following with respect to masking and school bus transportation as of today:

The guidance for school bus transportation is the same at this time. You can find the requirements here: Requirement for Face Masks on Public Transportation Conveyances and at Transportation Hubs | CDC

Are masks required on school buses?

Yes, passengers and drivers must wear a mask on school buses, including on buses operated by public and private school systems, subject to the exclusions and exemptions in CDC’s Order. Operators of school buses should refer to the Department of Education’s COVID-19 Handbook pdf icon[PDF – 27 pages]external icon for additional guidance.

A driver does not need to wear a mask if they are the only person on the bus.

Tonight's Summer Event
We know that it is quite hot out for our event tonight. As of right now, it appears that we should stay dry. We plan to continue the evening as scheduled and will have freeze pops and water. We would love to see you at 6:30!

Feed My Starving Children
We had 30 spots reserved for our upcoming Feed My Starving Children service project and have seen a fantastic response! At the moment, due to current capacity constraints, we are unfortunately full and have started a waiting list. Should your personal plans change, please email jmeyer@nda-mn.org.

In order to ensure the safety of volunteers and staff amid the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteering will look a little different than in the past. Please carefully review the following changes:

  • If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 please stay home.
  • FMSC will continue to follow CDC guidelines related to masks. If you are fully vaccinated you are not required to wear a mask in any of our facilities. If you are not fully vaccinated, we highly recommend you wear a mask. FMSC will not ask for proof of vaccination and trusts that all volunteers will operate in a way that honors and protects the safety of all of our staff and volunteers.
  • All volunteers will go through a verbal symptom screening upon arrival.
  • Social distancing: Members of a group will not be socially distanced from each other, but will be socially distanced from other groups. However, larger groups will be split into smaller subgroups that will be socially distanced from each other.
  • If you or anyone in your group develops symptoms while packing, you and your entire group will be asked to leave immediately.
  • According to our regular operating guidelines, children under the age of 5 are not allowed into the packing room.
  • If you are in a high risk category, please stay home.
  • A reservation is required to pack. No walk-ins can be accepted.
  • You may read more about FMSC's COVID-19 Safety Measures here.

Women's Weekend
We are looking forward to another great NDA Women’s Weekend on November 12, 13 & 14 - at Grandview Lodge. Women's Weekend is a longtime tradition that all the women here at NDA are invited to. This is an opportunity to meet other women, enjoy a weekend away, relax, and have some fun together! As it gets closer, we'll organize a potluck for Friday night, and then the time is really up to you! In years past women will go to a movie, Nisswa, Grandview Spa, long walks, hang-out at cabin, grab drinks and dinner.

Reserved this year is an 8 bedroom cabin + 4 bedroom cabin + 3 bedroom cabin. Most of the rooms have 2 beds, and we are looking for people to share a room as comfortable (not share a bed - own bed in shared room). If you're interested in your own bedroom we will look to accommodate (4 available in group cabins), but please note it may be in a different part of the resort.

Registration: This year you'll have to sign-up on our Registration form - Group reservation closes on October 15. Anything after we may not be able to guarantee being in a group cabin. They are not taking individual reservations any longer, and everything is reserved under Sheila Bothwell. Once committed and signed-up on the Registration form, and we have final headcount (Oct. 15), Sheila will request payment.

Cost will be ~$160-$200 per person - depending on the # of people that attend.
Contact Sheila, #612-298-6953, with any questions.
We hope to see you there!
