Welcome back! Although there's still a fair degree of uncertainty swirling around the fall semester, rest assured that the CTE is ready to support all your pedagogical needs. To help you get off to a strong start, we've compiled some just-in-time resources. You'll also find the latest team news and updates as well as information on additional opportunities across and beyond Grounds.

Teaching Consultations

Meet with a CTE consultant to discuss your teaching, scholarship of teaching and learning project, or curriculum (re)design work. The priority sign-up period for fall ends Thursday, September 2. Email cte-consultations@virginia.edu with questions.

Alicen Brown is one of two CTE Postdoctoral Research Associates. She works with Assistant Director Elizabeth Dickens, supporting our Curriculum (Re)Design program and DEI initiatives.

Faculty Fellows

CTE Faculty Fellows work alongside full-time staff to help support the Center's core mission of improving teaching and learning at UVA. Our newest Fellows, from left to right, are Marina Escámez Ballesta (Spanish), Joe Fore (Law), and Ann Reimers (Engineering). Cortney McEniry

Thank you and Goodbye


Our team said goodbye this summer to Cortney McEniry, UVA Acts' inaugural Artistic Director and Program Manager. She accepted a position as an assistant professor of Performing Arts at Ohio Wesleyan University.

We thank her for her many contributions to CTE work and the UVA community, and we wish her the best of luck in this next stage of her career! Stay tuned for an update on the search for the program's next leader.

CTE Supports 8 Units Undertaking Curriculum (Re)Design


Several units across Grounds are (re)designing their curricula with support from the CTE's Curriculum (Re)Design grant program. Read more on the latest group of grantees and a 2020 recipient nearing the end of their redesign process.

Assistant Director of STEM Education Initiatives Lindsay Wheeler co-wrote a research guide to help new and experienced educational developers identify the key decisions involved in designing surveys for research purposes.

Professors' Picks

Housing & Residence Life is looking for faculty interested in hosting book discussions this spring. Select a book of your choice for students to read over Winter Break. Then in the spring, you will facilitate a session in which students engage deeply with the material.

Classrooms will be reserved on your behalf for the discussion session and all books will be provided free of charge. If you're interested in participating, email Ilyas Saltani at is5pf@virginia.edu by Friday, October 29.
VIVA Open Adopt Grants

$2,000 grants are available to individual instructors who are interested in integrating existing open or no-cost materials into a syllabus. Adopted course materials must be piloted in the classroom by Spring 2023. Applications are due Monday, October 4.
