Since 1975 the Mid FL ROC has been presenting 6 monthly educational programs each year of value to cooperatives, condominiums, and HOAs manufactured homes. Mid FL ROC is widely known for first class topical programs presented by speakers who are well known and respected throughout Florida.

What Does the "Dog Days of Summer" Mean?

For many, the “dog days,” evoke those summer days that are so devastatingly hot that even dogs would lie around on the asphalt, panting. Instead, the dog days refer to Sirius, the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major, which means “big dog” in Latin and is said to represent one of Orion's hunting dogs.

The phrase is actually a reference to the fact that, during this time, the Sun occupies the same region of the sky as Sirius, the brightest star visible from any part of Earth and part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog. They referred to this time as diēs caniculārēs, or “dog days.”

Your Board of Directors hopes to resume meetings in the fall of 2021. The board is meeting monthly via telephone and monitoring the CDC reports and recommendations.

As the board of directors looks forward (hopefully) to scheduling 2021 fall meetings, we would like updates from our park members on the status of opening amenities and occupancy requirements, etc. Please let Mark Shaw know your status.

The format of this newsletter changed to make it easier to read. It will be published monthly and sent to the District Presidents, the board and staff.
ABOUT THIS NEWSLETTER
  • Appointment of two new directors at large. Richard Twort, Briarwood Mobile Park in Port Orange is a seasoned director who had served as a director. He took a break but when asked if he would serve again during a time of change on the board, agreed to do so.
  • Richard (Rick) Hollenbach, Sun Lake Estates, Grand Island, Florida is now serving as a director at large.

Look for features on these two new directors in the near future.
  • Other appointments: Bob Anderson is now the chair of the Education Committee. That committee conducts the state approved and required training of newly elected HOA Board members. That committee will also handle other education and training tasks. If you have an idea for a class that might be created and offered to FMO members, leaders, etc., please email it to bob1957@hotmail.com
DBPR Hosts Meeting
Ron reported that a meeting hosted by DBPR with FMO committee and FMHA (Florida Manufactured Housing Association) was worthwhile. One goal is to find common ground for legislation. A future meeting is scheduled for August.

Time With the Staff
The necessary paperwork was completed at the bank when Ron went to meet with office staff to get that financial requirement completed. Ron reported he enjoyed time with the staff and expects to visit again. The staff ultimately works for the board and Ron stated he believes that it is important to have a good working relationship.

Finances
Lew Wood, Treasurer, provided a detailed financial report with one final area yet to be completed due to computer issues. That will be provided, and a financial report will be sent by the President to District Presidents soon.

Software Development Progress Report
FMO Directors Lew Wood and Janet Townsend, prior to her resignation, along with Beth Pankow, Member Services Manager, and Diane Claus, Account Manager are working with the software developer. This special committee allows needed focus and communication. Both Lew and Janet reported positive steps and predicted results are on the way.

All Quiet on the Legislative Front
Nancy Black Stewart, FMO Legislative Counsel, reported it is quiet in Tallahassee but that will change when committee meetings start in September. Jesse James, Chair of the Political Advocacy Committee, and a member of the committee meeting with DBPR provided his perspective.

OTHER COMMITTEE REPORTS
Director Dave Carr chairs the Consolidated Legal Fund and gave a report on the finances. The committee plans to provide information to mobile parks via YouTube and other means. Currently forty seven parks are invested in this fund. More will be sought via the planned information program.

Patricia J. Keough-Wilson, Director of Communications, and chair of the Communications Committee, updated the board on Facebook; newsletters; involvement in providing articles for the magazine and other projects.

The Biennial
This important meeting is set for December 7th -9th. It will be held at the Ramada Inn in Kissimmee. District Presidents are delegates and should name two other delegates from their districts. Please begin to consider who will comprise your district delegation. Board elections will be on the agenda as will be bylaw updates. This meeting helps set FMO’s directions and strategy for the next two years. Please make sure your district is represented. Rooms are paid by FMO for delegates. And an evening dinner provides time to get acquainted with other FMO members. District Presidents, please look for your delegates now. More information will be coming your way on this meeting.

Be Cautious
FMO Staff received information regarding two sites that appear to be linked to FMO but are not. One bought a former URL and the name is still connected. The other purports to be officially linked and offers sales of old FMO Magazines. It includes the official number for the FMO office in Largo. Please be careful and use the official FMO sites for Facebook and note our website is under design. If in doubt call the office staff and ask for Beth or Diane.
