The Summer

Clear Out

Dear <<First Name>>,

If you like to get everything neat and sorted and all the rubbish cleaned out, then August is the month for you to flex your volunteering muscles and join us for an ERT work party.

There's grass to cut, balsam to bash and any amount of clearing and sorting to get stuck into ... so come and help us spread a bit of summer sunshine along the rivers of the Eden catchment.

Hope to see you soon

Best wishes,
Jenni
Volunteer Coordinator

Barnskew Site Day - Footpath Restoration

Thursday 5 August, 9.30am-12.30pm

Maulds Meaburn

Time to channel your inner Poldark and help us cut the grass on this permissive footpath the traditional way!
There'll be extra help or a quick refresher to make sure everyone is comfortable using a scythe before we tackle the footpath so whether you're an old hand or a total beginner, you'll be able to join the cutting team

No special equipment or experience is needed but you will need sturdy footwear, long sleeves and long trousers to protect you from the thistles.

Balsam bash

Saturday 7 August, 10am- 1pm

Glassonby

No special equipment or experience is needed but some areas are significantly overgrown and likely to be difficult to work in so you will need wellies or sturdy boots (site is wet in places!), long sleeves and long trousers.

We're going all out to eliminate Himalayan balsam from a conservation site in Glassonby with a 2-pronged attack - from the field up towards the village and from the old droving pool back down to meet the field.

Caldew river cleanup

Thursday 12 August, 10am-3pm

nr Millhouse, Hesket Newmarket

No special skills or experience is needed but access is tricky in places, there will be a significant amount of walking / scrambling about and some of the rubbish might be awkward to remove. this one is not for the fainthearted!

Wellies and gloves are essential and the river banks are steep in places so a good level of mobility and fitness is required.

Leaky dam maintenance

Thursday 19 August, 10am-3pm

Newbiggin / Cumrew area

Again no special skills or experience is required but you will need a good level of general fitness to access the sites and dig out accumulated debris.

You will need wellies and gloves and the site is steep with sharp banks into the becks so you will need a good level of mobility.

Moving the workshop

Saturday 21 August, 10am-3pm

Penrith

If you're handy with a screwdriver this is the one for you - a giant of a tool care session, packing up the store and workshop at Newton Rigg and moving everything across to set it up at the new ERT HQ.

Places are limited and booking is essential. You will need gloves, old clothes or overalls and some familiarity and experience with workshop tools.
