Band Camp News #2

Stick with me and read alllll the way down - schedule updates are last.
 

QUESTIONS???

Parents - its been difficult getting back into the swing of things and ready for camp after a year and half of virtual school.  Losing last Fall's 8th grade night football game, Spring Semester's middle school visits, and the Spring open house at the high school has left many rising Freshman and Sophomore families with questions.  We have tried to cover as much as possible in the lead up to camp, but if you have any lingering or burning questions, please reply to these mailings and we'll try to get everything answered in time for 8:30 Monday morning when THE BAND IS BACK!!!!
 

Masks

With the county announcing their new Fall masking requirements, students will need an instrument mask for band camp.  The school is ordering them for distribution, but with this last minute announcement from FCPS, please be sure to send your student with a mask or two (sweaty masks are gross) until the order is received.  It's possible they will be wearing them outdoors, stay tuned on that.  All returning band students who were issued instrument masks at the end of last school year please dig those out, get them washed, and bring them to camp.

Water Thermoses

Each year as part of the band fee (more on that in a later email) the Marching Atoms receive a 64 oz water jug with the Atoms logo.  Unfortunately these are on back order this summer, so they will not arrive until later during band camp.  With the summer heat it is CRITICAL students bring a water jug, not water bottles, with them to camp.  There will be water stations with ice to fill the jugs.  Returning students - again dig your old ones out and bring to camp.  Seniors - If you want to donate one of yours, bring it on day one and we'll offer them up.  New ones will be passed out once received.  These are used at all practices and other events.

Marching Shoes

Marching shoes are issued as part of the band uniform.  These shoes are returned with the marching uniform and used again the next year.  If a student would like to purchase their own personal pair to keep, so the shoes are more fitted and molded to your specific student, these will be available shortly via the MySchoolBucks website for about $40.  You are not required to buy your own pair, but we do make this offering for any student that might have special orthotics that might get fitted to the shoe, or occasionally if an unusually large size shoe is needed.  We will let you know when they are up on the website for ordering.

Band Camp Schedule Clarification

For returning families - yes you are seeing the camp schedule right.  The second week of camp is indeed only evenings.  Mr. Barnes has new teacher orientation all day Mon-Thur, 9-12 AUG.  There will be a full day session on Friday 13 AUG.  Everyone gets a covid pass and will escape band camp without the dreaded 13 hour days during week two!!

Fall Marching Practice Schedule

This year marching practice for the Fall season will be 4 days a week.  There will be a Monday practice added primarily dedicated to playing music.  Its been a long year and a half with students not in the classroom playing on a near daily basis.  Mondays will help get everyone back up to their previous playing ability.  Late days will also move to Thursdays.  The weekly practice schedule will be as follows:
Monday-Wednesday 3:30-6pm 
Thursday-Late Day-3:30-6:45pm
