Webinar | Responding to financial abuse issues: hardship arrangements with telcos (National)

Redfern Legal Centre’s specialist Financial Abuse practice helps victim-survivors to navigate their way out of abusive relationships. In this webinar, Will Dwyer, Financial Abuse Service NSW at Redfern Legal Centre, will provide practical guidance to caseworkers and guide their advocacy with telco companies and industry ombudsman schemes. Hardship policies and other practical support which is available when disclosures of domestic violence and financial abuse have been made will be explored. This webinar will be of interest to community workers and volunteers in services such as financial counselling, domestic violence, women's refuges and community legal centres. The information is applicable Australia-wide.

Guide | How to Stick to Your Order
Legal Aid NSW, 2021
The CLSD Program at Legal Aid NSW has announced that How to Stick to Your Order, a guide for defendants to Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVO), is now available to watch via their YouTube channel. View here »

The animation contains:

  • An explanation of an ADVO
  • Information about the consequences of breaching an ADVO
  • Tips for sticking to an ADVO, and
  • Frequently asked questions about real life scenarios that could result in breaching an ADVO and how to approach them.

The full animation is accompanied by 8 short videos; one to explain an ADVO and one for each FAQ. Subtitles can be turned off if needed.
 
A pdf version of the original pocket guide is also available here, in the publications section of the Legal Aid NSW website. The paper version of the pocket guide will also be available for services to order directly, on an ongoing basis via the Legal Aid NSW website in the coming months. Enquiries can be made via email.

Guide | Renters Guide to COVID-19 (NSW)
Tenants’ Union of NSW
The Tenants' Union of NSW produces a renters guide to provide legal information about situations that may arise as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Guide is regularly updated as health advisories and measures are put in place under the Residential Tenancies Act to ameliorate the impact of these on tenants in private and social housing. It is available in seven community languages: ArabicChinese (traditional)Chinese (modified)KoreanSpanishThai and Vietnamese.

In this episode of Legal Aid NSW’s Law for Community Workers podcast, Senior Solicitor from the Your Story Disability Legal Support Service, Sifa Mtango, shares how they are helping people with disability, their families, carers and support workers to tell their stories to the Disability Royal Commission.
