Dear Friends,

It is with concern and sadness that we have all witnessed the rise of case numbers in covid-19 over the past few weeks as the delta variant, which is far more contagious than the original, has taken hold. The leadership of the church and I have watched for any updates from the CDC, as we have done throughout the pandemic. On Wednesday, the CDC issued new guidelines, which you can find in this link: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated.html - and the local numbers for Grant County here: https://covidactnow.org/us/arkansas-ar/county/grant_county/?s=21111035

While we are all weary of the pandemic and its various restrictions, maintaining public health and providing safe opportunities to worship and be in ministry have been our primary concerns. Thus, starting this Sunday, August 1, we are re-instituting our requirement for masks to be worn indoors for all activities at FUMC, Sheridan for all persons regardless of vaccination status. This will include worship and Vacation Bible School. While the general guideline is that children under 10 do not need to wear a mask, if your child has worn a mask at school, we'd request for them to do so as well.

We continue to pray for an end to this scourge, for numbers to come down all over the world and locally, and for the health of not only our members, but all persons everywhere! If you are able and have not yet done so, we'd encourage you to get vaccinated.

On another, unrelated note, last Sunday, Judy Green, the Director of the Summer Feeding Program gave an update on that ongoing ministry. One of the things that Judy mentioned was the ability that the program has to partner with the Sheridan School District to deliver meals that have been prepared at the school because of a waiver by the USDA. This waiver has been vital in our ability to feed so many more children so many more meals. For perspective, in 2019, before the pandemic and before this waiver, we delivered about 14,000 meals. In 2020, during the pandemic and with the waiver, we were able to deliver close to 250,000 meals!

The waiver will run out in 2022. However, Judy also mentioned that Sen. Boozman (along with Sen. Leahy) are co-sponsoring a bill that would make that waiver permanent. I would encourage you to contact either Sen. Boozman or Sen. Cotton, along with Rep. Westerman, to support this bill. It is the Hunger-Free Summer for Kids Act (S.2005). You can reach them at:
You can also find information about summer hunger in the attachment.

I look forward to worshipping with you on Sunday and seeing you at Vacation Bible School throughout next week (August 1-4)!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Todd-Paul
