We want to assume students are having appropriate conversations on social media, or in live chat video games, or texting on their smart devices but sometimes that isn't the case. They are getting more and more sneaky about hiding inappropriate meanings.
Maybe a ✔️ (green checkmark) means they really approve of what their friend has said or done, but it's also known to be a symbol for marijuana.
We have just added more to the Smart Social list of Teen Slang, Emojis, & Hashtags Parents Need to Know (The Ultimate List).
I encourage parents to have frequent and friendly conversations with their students about appropriate online behavior. Just because an emoji or slang on this list show up in your teen's posts, doesn't mean they are always taking these alternate meanings.
Here are some of the newest updates to our list:
1. #Crow: Marijuana
2. #molly: MDMA or ecstasy
3. P911: Parent Alert (as in don't say anything because a parent is watching)
4. KPC: Keeping Parents Clueless
