Poetry Series Launches with
The McFerren Plot

DVille Press is launching the River Poets Series to publish and promote the work of Louisiana poets and to provide books for poetry readings and signings.

The first book is New Orleans poet Martha McFerren's latest volume The McFerren Plot which has already garnered praise from her colleagues. It is expected out by late August.

We welcome other poets to submit their work -- one stipulation: the poet must have been published in at least two literary magazines or journals.
Aswell signs Murder on the Teche
at Cavalier Books
Murder on the Teche
By Tom Aswell
Tom Aswell, author of our latest release Murder on the Teche: A True Story of Money and a Flawed Investigation, had a book signing at Cavalier Books in Denham Springs, LA July 17. The book is a meticulous recounting of what was discovered and what was overlooked in the case of popular New Iberia orthodontist Dr. Robert Chastant's brutal death in 2010 and asks troubling questions on both counts. Aswell will be speaking about the case at the Louisiana Book Festival October 30 in Baton Rouge.
Edwin and I Takes on New Significance with
Death of Gov. Edwin W. Edwards
With the death July 12 of one of Louisiana's most colorful governors, Edwin W. Edwards at age 93, and his stately sendoff at the Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge, countless people from all walks of life who were touched by him are recalling stories and jokes about his notoriety.

Our book Edwin & I: The Life and Times of the Cajun Prince As Told by His Conscience -- published 2019 -- is Bob Crowley's droll tribute to a man he knew well both in state politics and on a personal level, including corresponding with him during the ex-governor's eight-year stint in federal prison in the early 2000s.

Pfister Publishes Short Story in
Fresh Words Magazine
Congrats to the Professor!

Arthur Pfister
Arthur Pfister aka Professor Arturo, author of Jazz Stories we published last year, had his short story "Aunt Sweet" accepted for publication in the next issue of Fresh Words: An International Magazine. That story, like many of those in Jazz Stories, evokes the scenes, language and humor of growing up Creole in New Orleans mid-20th century.
Book of Cane River Stories
Coming in Autumn
A long-time effort on the part of Cane River native and resident Mecshelle Kochinsky to collect reminiscences, jokes, stories and documents as told by her neighbors and friends from the 1940s through the 1990s is finally ready for publication. It has a working title of Conversations with Creoles on Cane River and will include photos of many of the people featured in the book. There has been much written about this unique community near Natchitoches, LA by outsiders but little published in the words of the people themselves. Kochinsky's book should add that personal and historical aspect to literature of the area.

Good Reads for Back-to School
August marks the return of students to the classroom, hopefully in person this year as compared to the 2020-2021 academic year of lockdown for COVID-19. DVille Press has a number of titles that can be used by teachers, from the children's book Cardy the Cardinal Finds a Home in Donaldsonville for primary school to the history book The Free People of Color of New Orleans for high school and college Louisiana history courses and Jazz Stories in literature courses. Our thanks to local teachers and professors who are using our books and let us hear about their success with them. Keep spreading the word!
