RECENT NEWS
Hi  <<First Name>>,

Our camp to MERC in Auckland was a great experience. The weather was amazing, the activities were fun and challenging, and our instructor Sol was the great.

Thank you to all the parents that gave up their time to attend and support us, and to Diana for all the tasty kai.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM TERM 2
Another highlight was listening to students sharing their speeches and poems at the Celebration of Learning. Teachers in the team were very proud of the students who shared at our team auditions, and at the final Celebration of Learning in front of the judges. Pictured are Max presenting his speech and Ava receiving her prize.

POWERING FORWARD TO TERM 3
Our inquiry focus is ‘Our Predicaments’. We will be focusing on issues that require problem-solving and with a technological solution. Our curriculum links will be: technology and design, number knowledge and strategies in mathematics, persuasive writing, and Physical Education and Health. Keeping Ourselves Safe is also happening in conjunction with the Police.

We are planning to have experts from the Taupō District Council speak to students about issues in the Lake Taupō area, in line with our inquiry about ‘Our Predicaments’. These speakers will describe identified problems that occur in our district and ways they are dealt with. This will enable us to come up with creative solutions of our own.

It is essential that all our Year 6 students know their times-tables up to 10 by the end of the year. We are working hard to learn these during class time. Please support your child at home to learn these as well. It would be great if they can keep up with reading every night as well.

Term 3 Events
John Parsons, one of New Zealand’s foremost cyber-safety consultants, will be visiting our school on Monday, August 2. He will speak to students during the day and there will be a parent meeting in the evening. His presentation is entitled Protect Kids from Digital Harm. We strongly urge you to take this opportunity to hear from John. Information can be found at this website. His information is always topical and timely.

Parent teacher conferences will be held in Week 3. This is an opportunity to discuss your child’s report and next learning steps. We look forward to seeing you there.

Our school cross-country is coming up in Week 5, Thursday August 24. This will be held at Spa Park, similar to last year. We will let you know about the timing of events. Please let Mr Morehu know if you would like to be a marshal on the day. Training will take place at school. The interschool cross country will come later in the term.

We are looking forward to a busy and purposeful term. Te Mihi teachers are always available to talk. You may like to drop us a line via email or call into class in the morning or after school.
