Coastal Planning Consultation - Have Your Say

The Shire of Gingin is undertaking a project to understand how changes to the coastline will impact the future of Lancelin, Ledge Point, Seabird and Guilderton and we want to hear from you!

Our coastline is such an important feature of our lifestyle, identity and community and balancing our desire to live near the coast and managing the impacts of coastal processes is becoming more important.

JOIN THE CONVERSATION - WORKSHOPS HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND IN GUILDERTON & LANCELIN!

Guilderton Community Hall, 31 July 2021, 1 - 4.30pm (Lower Coastal Region)
Lancelin Sporting Complex, 1 August 2021, 1 - 4.30pm (Upper Coastal Region)

The workshops will provide some information on coastal processes and you will be able to share your thoughts and values on that section of the coast in addition to having opportunities to help us make decisions.

If you can't make the workshops then head online and complete the Community Values Survey or Mapping Exercise.  It's a really easy platform to use and the data you input here will help us to fill in a lot of gaps in the existing CHRMAP. Currently the CHRMAP has no data for Guilderton at all so please ensure you participate!

Why are we doing more coastal planning when we have already done a CHRMAP and Inundation study?

In 2019 Cardno prepared a CHRMAP for Lancelin, Ledge Point and Seabird that examined erosion risks and adaptation options. In 2020 Baird prepared an Inundation study for Lancelin, Ledge Point, Seabird and Guilderton.

However, there are some pieces of the puzzle missing so the Shire is now working to fill those gaps. This includes risk assessment and adaptation options for Guilderton and an assessment of what else has changed across the four coastal towns. This will give us a comprehensive and integrated understanding of how our coastline will be impacted in the future and how we can plan for and manage these changes in the four coastal town sites.

In addition, CHRMAPs contain a significant amount of technical information which can be difficult to understand. As a result, we will be producing a summary document that provides this information in an easy-to-read document using simple language.

Your New Rates format for 2021/22

Annually in August local governments across WA send out Rates Notices to their residents. Last year the Shire of Gingin had a number of issues with printing and with residents receiving their notices due to a mailing error.

Consequently this year, Council has reviewed this process and changed how it will distribute your Rates Notices.

This year you can expect to receive just one envelope towards the end of August from the Shire with 5 x documents inside. You should RETAIN 4 OF THESE 5 DOCUMENTS which are as follows:
  • Rates Notice
  • Fire Break Orders
  • Tip Pass & Parking Permit (on 1 page this year)
  • Recycling Calendar
The last document is the Shire’s annual magazine (formally known as the Budget Bulletin - now Council to Community: Annual Issue). This document contains useful information from us including how your rates work, when you can expect your verge side green waste collection to occur, what events the Shire will be holding over the next 12 months and more. You don’t need to retain this document but please keep the other 4. The Tip Pass and Parking Permit carry a $30 replacement fee each.

Fallen Tree? Know who to call

Recently the Shire has received a number of calls about fallen trees. Did you know though that sometimes you may need to enquire with a different service for assistance?

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services have produced the following to assist with determining who to call.

Upcoming Events

If you can't make one of the 2 x workshops this weekend then visit the online website to
complete the survey, fill in the map or to learn more.
