We had been planning a blow-out collaboration with Art Island for Monday's No Lights No Lycra, but we've decided to postpone it (and all other NLNL events) in light of the rise in Covid cases as Austin's approaching Stage 5. We just made this call (which is why this week's newsletter is coming to you late, and with a totally different intro than the one we'd prepped yesterday!).
If you already bought tickets to Monday's event, we appreciate you, and we will be in touch this weekend with info about getting a refund or applying your Eventbrite fee to this event when it finally does happen (exact date still TBD.)
We know NLNL will return to in-person dancing again soon, but we're still working out when. So keep your eye on this newsletter and/or like NLNLATX on Facebook or Instagram for updates.
In brighter news, we installed a new washer-dryer, and if that's not a good theme for a DJ set, what is? Brian devoted his weekly internet radio show, No Humans Allowed, to songs of the machines, and it turns out your major household appliances have a lot to say.
Events we're eyeing
Friday 7/30
Cowgirls Rave in North Austin A mysterious cowgirl rave appears w/free drinks + a bounce house
(weekly) Thursday Night Social Ride throughout Austin Bike around town in the dark with hundreds of other cyclists
(weekly) The Drop-In at the Long Center ACL-curated free outdoor concert series
No Humans Allowed 064
Songs of the Machines
For No Humans Allowed’s 64th show (1000000 in binary or 26) we have something especially robotic. A sampling of computerized jingles, vocoder wizardry, and proto-synthpop that represents the height of culture for your electric kettle, instant pot, and washer/dryer. Set to automatic and press play.

What is No Lights No Lycra?
Austin's weekly judgment-free, substance-free, high-impact dance thing in the dark, every Monday at 8:30pm (Covid-permitting). It's a DJ night that's not at the club, a workout that's not at the gym, a personal meditation that's anything but silent. Read more about us in the Austin Chronicle.
How do we choose which events to feature?
Honestly, it's pretty random. We might include anything in Austin that we, personally, would conceivably want to go to, generally excluding normal concerts, comedy shows, and movie showtimes because there are many other good resources for finding those. (We especially recommend Showlist for live music, dance.atx for DJs, and 101+ Weird Austin Things to Do for exactly what it sounds like). This list is by no means exhaustive; it's just stuff that caught our eye this week. If you have an event that you want us to consider including, send it over.
Who are we?
We make this newsletter. We put on No Lights No Lycra each week. We do some other stuff here and there. We love going out to creative events in Austin, and we want you to join us. Visit us at liteandbriteatx.com.
