#9: After recent arrival in early June, new Humboldt State AD Jones is optimistic about the state of his program. Jones: "As I’ve gotten started on my journey here at HSU, among the things that have really stood out to me is that I inherited a good, strong program. We have a long ways to go for the goals and objectives that I want us to accomplish, but this is not a broken department by any means." On his fundraising experience: “I would assume that that’s probably a significant part of the reason why I’m sitting here. … I feel very comfortable putting my background up against anyone else’s. I have been a part of season ticket holder bases that double (every) two, three or four years, I’ve been a part of the shifting landscape of intercollegiate athletics, whether it through a conference realignment or apparel contract renegotiation. All of those things matter as we take a look at where we are. Whether you’re a division three institution or a powerful division one institution, nowadays, sitting in this role is a prerequisite for helping to move an organization forward.” More. (link)
#8: PSAC Commish Murray releases statement on recent PASSHE member integration, including the following excerpt: "Last week, a unanimous vote [...] to integrate six member institutions into two universities with six separate campuses was passed. All six institutions, Bloomsburg, California, Clarion, Edinboro, Lock Haven and Mansfield are also members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, along with, the NCAA Division II. [...] My office has been in frequent contact with the member institution's leadership and State System representatives. [...] It is important to the other 12 members of our Conference that these six campuses remain as PSAC members. [...] I am extremely optimistic that now that the formal academic processes of integration have begun for the six campuses that all necessary processes needed for continued membership in Division II will occur. This process may not be as fast as some would desire, but all involved agencies need to carefully review the plans and render necessary decisions." (link)

But, quite frankly, his expertise and experience since he left here is what pushed him over the top." (link)

#3: Oklahoma State Rep. Vancuren will host an "interim study later this year probing the feasibility of creating an 11-member Oklahoma-only NCAA Division II athletic conference." Vancuren: "Whenever I see that we’ve gotten schools that haven’t had winning records, and we’re competing against schools throughout the state, I don’t understand why we would want to drive or travel long distances and not be able to compete with those teams when we could do something right here in the state of Oklahoma, and it would be more beneficial to everyone. ... All of those regional rivalries become something that creates interest and creates a draw that would make people want to go see those games, and therefore they’d make more money." (link)
