"The Importance of Short Breaks and Short Break Opportunities"

Please join us as we look back over an extraordinary year for Lanarkshire Carers. This will be an opportunity to find out more about our work over the past year and our plans for the future.
Dear Member,

At the AGM in 2020, you were advised that we planned to review our governing document (Articles of Association) and amend our membership structure to support the sustainable development of our carer led organisation. The Board of Directors has completed this review with support and advice from SenScot Legal.

The updated version of Lanarkshire Carers Articles of Association is available to members using the link circulated in order to review and note the changes made. These include changes to wording to make some sections more current and clear, a change to the maximum number of directors on the board and changes to our organisations membership structure as a whole.

These changes to our membership structure are proposed because we know that some carer’s want only to access our support services without the responsibilities that come with full membership of the organisation, whilst other carers want to access our support services and contribute as full members. Therefore, we are proposing a new membership structure which includes options for both Full Membership and Affiliate Membership. Our services remain open to all carers regardless of membership category and the new arrangements also allows for carers to change between full and affiliate membership if they choose to do so.

Part of this review has informed changes to our Service User Involvement Policy to become a Carer Involvement Policy. This has been done to outline more clearly for carers the different ways in which they can get involved and what support is available to them to help them participate. Most importantly the work will ensure carers continue to shape our services and share their experiences. We value carers as experts by experience and encourage active involvement and participation in all aspects of our work. We recognise and respect the expertise of carers as a vital resource within and throughout our organisation.

You will be asked to approve the resolution at the AGM 2021.
We look forward to you joining us on the day!
