XVIII Domingo do Tempo Comum - ANO B, 01 de Agosto de 2021

LEITURA I Ex 16, 2-4.12-15

Naqueles dias, toda a comunidade dos filhos de Israel começou a murmurar no deserto contra Moisés e Aarão. Disseram-lhes os filhos de Israel: «Antes tivéssemos morrido às mãos do Senhor na terra do Egipto, quando estávamos sentados ao pé das panelas de carne e comíamos pão até nos saciarmos. Trouxestes-nos a este deserto, para deixar morrer à fome toda esta multidão». Então o Senhor disse a Moisés: «Vou fazer que chova para vós pão do céu. O povo sairá para apanhar a quantidade necessária para cada dia. Vou assim pô-lo à prova, para ver se segue ou não a minha lei. Eu ouvi as murmurações dos filhos de Israel. Vai dizer-lhes: ‘Ao cair da noite comereis carne e de manhã saciar-vos-eis de pão. Então reconhecereis que Eu sou o Senhor, vosso Deus’». Nessa tarde apareceram codornizes, que cobriram o acampamento, e na manhã seguinte havia uma camada de orvalho em volta do acampamento. Quando essa camada de orvalho se evaporou, apareceu à superfície do deserto uma substância granulosa, fina como a geada sobre a terra. Quando a viram, os filhos de Israel perguntaram uns aos outros: «Man-hu?», quer dizer: «Que é isto?», pois não sabiam o que era. Disse-lhes então Moisés: «É o pão que o Senhor vos dá em alimento». Palavra do Senhor.

EVANGELHO Jo 6, 24-35

Naquele tempo, quando a multidão viu que nem Jesus nem os seus discípulos estavam à beira do lago, subiram todos para as barcas e foram para Cafarnaum, à procura de Jesus. Ao encontrá-l’O no outro lado do mar, disseram-Lhe: «Mestre, quando chegaste aqui?». Jesus respondeu-lhes: «Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: vós procurais-Me, não porque vistes milagres, mas porque comestes dos pães e ficastes saciados. Trabalhai, não tanto pela comida que se perde, mas pelo alimento que dura até à vida eterna e que o Filho do homem vos dará. A Ele é que o Pai, o próprio Deus, marcou com o seu selo». Disseram-Lhe então: «Que devemos nós fazer para praticar as obras de Deus?». Respondeu-lhes Jesus: «A obra de Deus consiste em acreditar n’Aquele que Ele enviou». Disseram-Lhe eles: «Que milagres fazes Tu, para que nós vejamos e acreditemos em Ti? Que obra realizas? No deserto os nossos pais comeram o maná, conforme está escrito: ‘Deu-lhes a comer um pão que veio do Céu’». Jesus respondeu-lhes: «Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: Não foi Moisés que vos deu o pão do Céu; meu Pai é que vos dá o verdadeiro pão do Céu. O pão de Deus é o que desce do Céu para dar a vida ao mundo». Disseram-Lhe eles: «Senhor, dá-nos sempre desse pão». Jesus respondeu-lhes: «Eu sou o pão da vida: quem vem a Mim nunca mais terá fome, quem acredita em Mim nunca mais terá sede». Palavra da salvação.

A VOZ DO PASTOR

Queridos irmãos, algumas informações importantes pra nós nesta semana:

1. O ofício da Igreja ficará fechado durante todo o mês de Agosto, pois a secretária está de férias. Caso seja algo urgente, deixe sua mensagem na secretária eletrônica e assim que puder, o padre irá responder e retornar;

2. A Imagem de Nossa Senhora de Fátima irá em Setembro visitar as casas das famílias de nossa Paróquia. Caso você queira receber a imagem para junto a ela rezar, dê o seu nome a sra. Gabriella Dias que está organizando as visitas e lhe dará mais informações;

3. O nosso muito obrigado a todos que nos ajudaram na Festa do Senhor Santo Cristo e no “Take out” organizado pela Irmandade. Deus lhes pague!

4. Ligue e visite aqueles irmãos que estão afastados de nossa Comunidade, ou são idosos ou que moram sozinhos. Nossa visita, até mesmo um telefonema, pode fazer a diferença. Pense nisso!

Irmãos e irmãs, todo o homem tem anseio de felicidade e procura-a geralmente em coisas materiais: prazeres, passeios, bebidas, festas, boa comida, sexo… mas acaba por reconhecer que continua insatisfeito.

A liturgia da Palavra deste Domingo fala-nos do maná dado por Deus ao seu povo e que o alimentava dando robustez a um corpo destinado a perecer. Todavia, diz-nos ainda, o verdadeiro pão da vida é a Sua Palavra, incarnada em Jesus de Nazaré, que é capaz de modificar toda a nossa vida transformando-nos em «homens novos», conduzidos a uma vida que não acaba.

Pensemos um pouco nas vezes que procurámos a felicidade onde ela não se pode encontrar e desprezámos a Palavra que dá vida. E, com humildade, peçamos perdão ao Senhor que nos ajude a recomeçar.

PASTOR’S VOICE

Dear brothers and sisters, some important information for us this week:

1. The church office will be closed for the entire month of August, as the administrative assistant is on vacation. If something is urgent, leave your message on the answering machine and as soon as possible, the priest will respond and return;

2. In September, the Image of Our Lady of Fátima will visit the homes of families in our Parish. If you want to receive the image to pray with her, contact the organizer, mrs. Gabriella Dias for more information;

3. Many thanks to everyone who helped us at the Feast of the Lord Santo Cristo and at the “Take out” organized by the Brotherhood. God repay them!

4. Call and visit those brothers who are distant from our community, are elderly or are living alone. Our visit, even a phone call, could make a difference. Think about it!

Brothers and sisters, every man yearns for happiness and generally looks for it in material things: pleasures, outings, drinks, parties, good food, sex… but he ends up recognizing that he is still dissatisfied.

This Sunday's Liturgy of the Word tells us of the manna given by God to his people and that he fed them, giving strength to a body destined to perish. However, he also tells us, the true bread of life is his Word, incarnated in Jesus of Nazareth, which is capable of changing our whole life, transforming us into "new men", leading to a life that never ends.

Let us think for a moment about the times we have sought happiness where it cannot be found and we have despised the Word that gives life. And, with humility, let us ask the Lord's forgiveness to help us start over.

FIRST READING I Exodus 16.2-4, 12-15

The whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The Israelites said to them, “Would that we had died at the LORD’s hand in the land of Egypt, as we sat by our fleshpots and ate our fill of bread! But you had to lead us into this desert to make the whole community die of famine!” Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will now rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather their daily portion; thus will I test them, to see whether they follow my instructions or not. “I have heard the grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them: In the evening twilight you shall eat flesh, and in the morning you shall have your fill of bread, so that you may know that I, the LORD, am your God.”In the evening quail came up and covered the camp. In the morning a dew lay all about the camp, and when the dew evaporated, there on the surface of the desert were fine flakes like hoarfrost on the ground. On seeing it, the Israelites asked one another, “What is this?” for they did not know what it was. But Moses told them, “This is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat.”

HOLY GOSPEL I John 6.24-35

When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were at the place where Jesus had given the bread, they themselves got into the boats and went to Capernaum looking for Jesus.

When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” Jesus answered them, “Very truly, I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal.”

Then they said to Jesus, “What must we do to perform the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” So they said to him, “What sign are you going to give us then, so that we may see it and believe you? What work are you performing? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”

Then Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
