Together we'll create a resilient future

From the Interreg MED Renewable Energy community, we hope that everything has gone well in this first semester of 2021. While the global situation is still uncertain - a year and a half after the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic -  the European Union has set the ground to achieve the EU Green Deal targets with its new EU Strategy on Climate Adaptation. With energy being a leading sector in greenhouse gas emissions, to achieve these goals, the moment for the energy transition is now.

For this to come true, the Renewable Energy community continues its work towards achieving this shared objective. To do so, we are supporting rural and island areas across the Mediterranean to join the energy transition through our mainstreaming activity: the ETU Flagship Cases.

In parallel, during these past months we've continued building capacity to implement renewable energy in small municipalities through our five Regional Groups, and by sharing our tools to boost the green energy transition in the Mediterranean.

See below our updates and stay tuned for our upcoming activities!

Nine municipalities in four mediterranean countries are selected as ETU Flagship Cases

The Interreg MED Renewable Energy community selected nine municipalities in Spain, Italy, Croatia and Greece to become ETU Flagship Cases. The rural, urban and island municipalities selected applied to the open call that ran from mid-February to the end of March 2021, expressing their interest in receiving support to join the energy transition.

Renewable energy communities to boost the energy transition in the Mediterranean

An effective energy transition requires active citizen engagement, and renewable energy communities (RECs) can play a key role in putting citizens at the center. The ETU Flasgship Cases of Monachil (Spain) and Magliano Alpi (Italy) are examples of towns whose inhabitants are working together to make their village part of the energy transition in through the establishment of RECs. Learn more about how the ETU is supporting RECs across the Mediterranean in this REVOLVE Magazine article.

The ETU Initiative: supporting rural and island areas in the Mediterranean to join the green energy transition

Do you know how the ETU can support you to boost the energy transition in your community?

Two thirds of global greenhouse gas emissions come from energy use. To achieve the targets set in the EU Green Deal, the time for the energy transition is now. The ETU is contributing to achieve the EU climate neutrality target by building resilience and promoting renewable energy in rural and island areas across the Mediterranean.
