Ninth Sunday after Pentecost
Today is the first of five Sundays with gospel readings from John 6, the first four of which focus on Jesus as bread of life. Today Jesus feeds thousands of people with five loaves and two fish. What we have, what we bring to Jesus’ table, seems like it is not nearly enough to meet all the needs we see around us. But it is not the adequacy of our supplies or our skills that finally makes the difference: it is the power of Jesus working in the littlest and least to transform this world into the world God desires, a world where all the hungry are satisfied.
Readings
2 Kings 4:42-44 + Psalm 145:10-18 + Ephesians 3:14-21 + John 6:1-21
Click here for this Sunday's readings.
OUTDOOR EUCHARIST + 8:00 AM
Join us in our beautiful outdoor worship space for an abbreviated liturgy (approx. 30 minutes) with scripture readings, music, prayer, and communion. (Pet-friendly!)

Face masks are optional for outdoor worship.
WORSHIP WITH HOLY COMMUNION + 9:00 AM

Guest musicians, Spencer Peterson, Jack Quinones, and Greg Wojcik, will be joining Kjel Hanson for our contemporary worship service.

Starting this weekend, we will resume the use of freshly-baked bread and individual cups of wine and grape juice for the distribution of Holy Communion during our primary indoor liturgy. The assembly will be invited to come forward (in continuous fashion) to receive the elements. Communion servers will hand sanitize before distribution and wear face masks given the close physical proximity. Gluten-free wafers will continue to be available.

Masks are optional (if fully vaccinated) for indoor worship.
Face coverings are no longer required for persons who are fully vaccinated. As an act of loving service to our community, especially children who attend worship, persons who are not yet vaccinated are still asked to wear a face covering at this time.

Can you help serve in worship?
If you are interested in helping during the 9:00 AM worship service as an usher, reader, assisting minister, communion assistant, sacristan, or bread baker, we could use your help! Go to the link below to sign up for a Sunday that works for you, or sign up on the bulletin board in the hallway. And if it's your first time helping, Pastor Josh will walk you through what to do before the service.
Worship Volunteer Sign-up
We love having families worship with us, and we especially welcome the presence (and the sound!) of children during our services. But we also understand that children (and their parents) might need a break every now and again. That is why we offer a special room for kids to hang out, while parents can still listen to the service on the intercom in the room. Let an usher know if you need help finding it or turning on the intercom.

As part of the new newsletter, we want to include a way to practice our faith outside of church. This could be sending a card, helping one person, donating an item, etc. Every week, we will include an idea for the coming week.

Let's fill Amanda's car up with donations for the food pantry. Ask your family and neighbors if they would like to donate as well! Collection is ongoing until Aug. 1.

Thank you for your participation in making a difference in the community!

CWS School Kits
We are partnering again with Church Worldwide Services to provide school kits for families both locally and globally who need our support. Once you choose an item to purchase, click the "Submit and Sign Up" button at the bottom of the page. The next screen has a box to add quantity of items you wish to donate. We will also need to pay the shipping fee so monetary donations are also welcome. Make checks payable to St. Philip Lutheran Church and put "School Kits" in the memo. The school supplies sales have begun, so take advantage.

Items can be dropped off either at church or Terri Schlangen's house. Pick up can also be arranged.  If you have any questions, please contact Terri 847-707-1044 or tjdini1@gmail.com

Lutheran World Relief
Kyle Johnson, a first call candidate and recent graduate of the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, will be preaching at St. Philip on Sunday, August 8. Kyle has been making personal care kits through Lutheran World Relief and is seeking donations of the following items that are included in each kit: bath towels, bar soap, toothbrushes, combs, and nail clippers

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
  • Anytime between now and August 8, drop off items at church. You can purchase one of each item to make a complete kit (no need to assemble), or any combination of items you wish.
  • Purchase items off of Kyle's Amazon wishlist (link in the button below). If you can't make it to church, this is an easy way to contribute. Simply add the item(s) you wish to purchase from the wishlist to your cart and check out as normal. Items will be sent directly to Kyle.
Thank you for your generosity!
