Join us this Saturday at our weekly open house and return to self-guided tours. Explore of our Historic Buildings, Pop up Gift Shop, Museum Garden, Heritage Breed Animals, History Exhibits and more.

Pack a lunch and grab a picnic table or find a cool spot beneath a shade a tree.
 
If you feel like striking out on your own bring along a bike or hiking shoes, and explore the many paths along the Seneca Greenway & Schaeffer Farm Trails which launch from the entrance of our farm.

A short hike will bring you to the cooling waters of Great Seneca Creek, where you’ll find a popular swimming hole at nearby historic Black Rock Mill.
 
Docents will be busy upgrading signage, setting up displays and working in the garden. Feel free to stop and see what they are up to and learn about the history of the farm.

9:30am – Awards ceremony

Join the team from EX2 Adventures for their annual Blue Crab Bolt Trail Running Series at Schaeffer Farm Trail in Seneca Creek State Park, beginning and ending in the 17-acre field at Button Farm Living History Center.

The race consists of a 5K, 10K and Virtual race options. If you have visited the farm, but haven’t experienced the miles of beautiful trails, then this is the race for you.

  • July 31: The farm will be closed
  • August 7, 14, 21 & 28: The farm will be open from 12-3pm. Keep your eye on the calendar for new activities each week. 
  • September 18: 5-7pm our annual Drinks on the Veranda returns. Enjoy libations sourced from local and regional wineries, breweries and distilleries served up with an historical twist. Music, food and entertainment cap off this intoxicating event! More details to come.
  • October 16 & 17: 12-3PM Heritage Harvest returns. Enjoy history, crafts, vendors and tours at this annual celebration of autumn! Sponsored by Heritage Montgomery. More details to come. 
  • October 31: 12-3PM Join us for Maryland Emancipation Day. Celebrate the day in 1864 when slavery was abolished in Maryland. Discover how enslaved Marylanders won their freedom six months before Juneteenth! More details to come.
