Pedro Castillo, a leftist political novice who has promised to be a champion of his country’s poor, on Wednesday became Peru’s new president.  

The rural teacher who has never held political office before was sworn in less than two weeks after he was declared the winner of the June 6 runoff election. He is Peru’s first president of peasant origin....

Brazilian cement makers CSN Cimentos, a subsidiary of steelmaker CSN SA; Cimentos Mizu; and Cimento Apodi, in which Titan Cement International has a stake, are among the bidders for assets LafargeHolcim Ltd has put for sale, two people with knowledge of the matter said.  Lafarge, the world's largest cement maker, expects to generate $ 1 to $ 1.5 billion in revenue, saying people will disclose private talks on condition of anonymity.....

Mexico's economy rebounds 19.7 pct year on year in Q2

Mexico's economy rebounded 19.7 percent year on year in the second quarter of 2021, buoyed by good performance across all sectors, according to preliminary figures released Friday by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).  Seasonally adjusted figures showed Mexico's gross domestic product (GDP) grew 1.5 percent in the second quarter compared to the previous, Inegi said in a statement, industrial activity rose 28.2 percent year on year, while the services sector grew 17.1 percent.....
