Preparing for a remarkable year ahead

Jul 20, 2021 11:32 pm | John Stepper

Doing something remarkable can be stressful and isolating. Or you can join a WOL Circle.

The structure and small steps over time help you get things done. Doing it together with a small, trusted group provides the support and encouragement you need to persist.

The next WOL Circles are forming in September.

If you speak German, you can join more than 500 people who have already registered. The program’s hashtag is #GemeinsamWachem or “Growing Together”.

JOIN WOL FRAUENSTÄRKEN

For English speakers we’ll have Circles in a wide range of timezones. (Our last program had participants from ten countries.) I will be in a Circle too, my 13th. There’s also a special plan for companies who want to register entire Circles.

JOIN A WOL CIRCLE

What is “remarkable” for each person in a Circle will vary.

Arturo found a new role in a new country. ("Dreams do come true!” he wrote.)

Isa was inspired to build a business. (One that allows her “to live a life in harmony between work and life-style.”)

Annemie wrote a book:

Without this rich learning process, I would never have shared my story with the world, simply because I never suspected its value, let alone its existence, hidden deep within myself.

Other Circle members explored new topics and developed new skills. Together, they dared to take steps towards a future they had only imagined. They built relationships that are a source of strength and resilience. They cultivated confidence.

In a recent WOL program of more than three thousand people, 81% said “I want to join a Circle again."

We expect over 1000 people in Circles this September. I hope to see you there. I hope to make 2022 a remarkable year for all of us.

Which planet do you live on? (A short test)

Jul 14, 2021 08:39 am | John Stepper

In Humankind, Rutger Bregman tells the story of a Dutch professor who presents new students with the following scenario.

Imagine an airplane makes an emergency landing and breaks in three parts. As the cabin fills with smoke, everybody inside realizes: We've got to get out of here.

On Planet A, the passengers turn to their neighbors to ask if they’re okay. Those needing assistance are helped out of the plane first,.People are willing to give their lives, even for perfect strangers.

On Planet B, everyone’s left to fend for themselves. Panic breaks out. There’s lots of pushing and shoving. Children, the elderly, and people with disabilities get trampled underfoot.

Now the question: Which planet do you live on?

Before reading on, think about it for a moment and make your choice.

Which planet do you live on?.001.jpeg

“I would estimate about 97 percent of people think we live on Planet B," says the professor, Tom Postmes. But the data doesn’t support that. “The truth is, in almost every case, we live on Planet A.”

How you answer colors your entire life. Depending on which Planet you choose, you will see (and seek out) examples that validate your belief. You yourself will act accordingly.

The kind of world you think we live in is the world you will experience each day. Choose wisely.
