Candidate for Mayor of Bellingen, Andrew Woodward today released detail on the first of eight proposals for Bellingen Shire.
The Labor team has declared community safety as the number one issue to be addressed should it succeed at the 4 September 2021 poll.
Under Labor’s plan, council spending would be directed at:
Prioritising safer roads
Protecting waterways and farmlands from pollution
Ensuring best practise on forest and fire management
Creating jobs as to reduce crime

There’s no greater job for government at any level than to protect its citizens from harm. Bellingen Shire Council has a role to play in community safety.
Our scare road funding must be spent on blackspots and high traffic areas. All available road funding will go toward fixing council-controlled blackspots first.
We’ll clean up our waterways and farmlands by establishing a new unit in council to act as a watchdog to ensure Forestry Corporation acts within the law. The days of Forestry Corporation acting as it likes will be over.
The watch-dog unit will also ensure Forestry Corporation helps protect the shire from fire. We’ll hold them to account and ensure that put the safety of citizens first.
Unemployment is a key contributor to crime. We have plans for creating jobs in the shire. If we can get unemployment down, reductions in crime rates will follow.
The key threats to our safety and wellbeing are addressed in Labor’s proposals for a safer Bellingen.
All of Labor’s plans for a safer community are funded within current council resources.
