Dear DaySpringers,
Happy Wednesday to you. I want to mention a few key things happening this week and share some information about Sunday evening’s Quarterly Meeting.
Thursday: You’ll receive an email with a link to a survey about the church grounds, faith, and creation care. I’d be so very grateful if you’d take a few minutes in the next week or so to complete the questionnaire. If you have any questions about it, please feel free to ask me.
Friday: Lectionary Breakfast returns to in-person meetings! We will meet in the private room at Our Breakfast Place (formerly The Egg and I) on Franklin Avenue at 8 am. If you’ve not come before, give it a try. It’s a lively conversation each week over the scriptures for Sunday worship, and, I’m happy to say, this week it will be complemented by actual breakfast.
Saturday: Amy Everett departs with 17 children to Passport Camp, something else we didn’t get to have last year! You might say an extra prayer for Amy, and the other adult chaperones Wes Cunningham, Megan Henderson, and Jason Craig.
Sunday: At 5:30 pm, we will meet for our Quarterly Meeting. If you can make (or buy) ice cream to share, please do (Yet one more thing we didn’t have last year!!). There are two important matters to come before us on Sunday:
First, Susan Thrift has led the effort to bring a proposal to revamp the platform at the front of the sanctuary. Indeed, over the Covid-interlude we have already done quite a bit in the sanctuary—new ceiling tiles, lights, speakers and sound system control, wifi and live streaming capability, and air conditioning controls. Along the way, we’ve realized there are wiring problems underneath our current platform which sent us down the path of considering replacing the whole platform. The proposal is to fix the wiring problems and then to extend and raise the platform, giving more space for choir and musicians and improving sight lines from the back of the sanctuary. The proposal is to use Capital Funds for this project. The cost is estimated to be $26,000-$28,000. This proposal will be presented for discussion and a vote at the meeting.
Second, Tiffani Harris and a group of lay people have been exploring the possibility of DaySpring starting a Hospitality House in North Waco. The Naomi House would include a residential community of ‘hosts’ and the capacity for welcoming up to several individuals or families in the asylum process. Those seeking Asylum in the United States are here legally as they wait a final ruling on their asylum case. (If you have gotten to know Carla and little Henry, Carla is currently in the same process.) A house in North Waco has come available to us who, with a consortium of church and non-profit partners, are exploring this ministry opportunity. No proposals are being brought forward for a vote on Sunday, but rather this is an opportunity to hear about this and join with the planning team and those who have expressed interest, discernment, and prayer about the ministry opportunity before us.
There’s a lot of good happening here in all these days. Thanks be to God.
I hope to see you soon,
Eric
