Significant Incidents Since Last Report

ROBBERY 865 N HIGHLAND AVE
On May 28, police responded to a robbery call from the CVS Pharmacy at 865 N Highland Ave.  Upon arrival, a witness advised that she was working at the front cash register when a black male dressed in a gray hoodie came up to the counter with a drink and two snacks.  The suspect asked the cashier what time the pharmacy closed, and then told her to take the money out of the cash register and give it to him.  The cashier pretended she did not hear and asked the suspect to speak up, at which point the suspect placed his hands in his pocket and told the cashier that he was going to shoot her if she didn’t open the cash register.  The witness observed a brown object like a gun handle and started to cry as loudly as possible until the suspect told her to be quiet.  When the cashier realized that no one was coming to help her, she opened the cash register and the suspect came behind the counter to grab the money.  The suspect took $76.73 and exited the pharmacy.  Investigators retrieved security camera footage from the store manager, and a crime scene technician dusted for fingerprints.

BURGLARY (GARAGE) 800-BLOCK ADAIR AVE
On June 15 at approximately 12:41 pm, police were dispatched to the 800-block of Adair Ave concerning a theft from a garage.  The victim said that when he walked to the curb that afternoon, he realized that he had left the door open on his free-standing garage.  He then noticed that his blue beach cruiser styled Diamondback male bicycle ($400) and a yellow child trailer ($200) had been stolen from his garage.  The victim reviewed footage from his security camera, which had captured a dark image leaving his property and heading south toward Ponce de Leon Ave on Barnett St.  The security camera was too far away from the suspect to show any identifying features.

Quick Notes

Bump and Rob Incidents
There have been several bump and rob incidents lately in surrounding neighborhoods. After being involved in a fender bender, drivers exit their vehicle to check damage and find themselves facing armed individuals who steal their vehicle. Follow the advice from APD if you are involved in an accident.

Incident at Pylant Street
Recently two young women were robbed and car-jacked in an area on Pylant Street that is frequented by young people at night. As parents and older adults we all remember having similar hang-out areas where we gathered with friends. However, it appears that this spot is now known to criminals as a location to prey on potentially vulnerable people. Please speak with family and friends and suggest that this may not be the best place to hang out at this time.
