Playing with Slow Stitching

Saturday July 24, 9:45 - 12:30  or
Monday July 26, 12:00 - 2:30

Come join me for fun and relaxing adventures in Slow Stitching!  This is a popular art form right now, especially for 'visible mending,' inspired by the Japanese art of boro; decorative patching born out of necessity. We'll touch on traditional practical mending and darning skills, then expand into more creative play, including working on hand-made paper and old postcards.  I have lots of materials for you to play with.  See below for some examples.
You do not need to know how to sew to come to this Play-Shop!  As always, no experience is necessary, and materials are included.
Cost is $25, and scholarships are available if needed.
Because this takes place in our home, at this point I request that only fully vaccinated folks come to the group Play-Shop.  If you're not vaccinated and would like to do this, let me know and we'll schedule a private one for the same price!
Please contact Janet to register:
janartist@gmail.com  or  303-776-2052
and let me know if you're coming to Saturday morning or Monday afternoon.

Here are some more slow-stitching examples:

Here are patches of hand-dyed linen, sewn onto denim in the style of "visible mending.".

These colorful circles are inspired by "penny rugs," a historic way of using up scraps of felted wool, but these are stitched on
hand-made paper.

Playing with some fabric scraps, and various simple stitch patterns.  This reminds me of the creative ways my mom mended my clothes when I was a youngster wearing holes in them in the 1970's!

This is a work in progress, stitching on an old postcard.  I thought these guys needed to lighten up a bit, so I'm stitching brightly colored flowers onto them.
