Announcing: Food Justice Mini Grants
Do you have a project idea that would build food justice in Austin? The City of Austin’s Office of Sustainability is offering Food Justice Mini Grants for organizations that are working through an intersectional and equity lens to lead transformative change in our food system.
This program can support many different community-driven solutions to create a more just food system that empowers communities to grow, sell, and eat healthy food. A few project ideas could include:
Innovative food production methods
Tools for urban farmers or gardeners to sell produce collectively
Expanding fresh food markets or food retail
Startup costs for collective food buying
Community events centered on food systems or food justice
Grants of up to $3,000 will be awarded, and applications are open now through August 13.
Get involved in shaping how Austin walks, bikes, and rolls
The City of Austin Public Works and Transportation departments have partnered to create ATX Walk Bike Roll - a project to update three plans that guide when and where we build places to walk, bike and roll.
Urban Trails Plan (2014) – The plan update for the Urban Trails Program will re-examine the proposed trail network, develop a new project selection process and improve policies with the goal of building more miles of trails in less time.
Sidewalk Plan (2016) – The plan update for the Sidewalk Program will look beyond sidewalks to create a safe pedestrian network. The update will consider where safe crossings are needed, as well as curb ramps, pedestrian crossings and more.
Bicycle Plan (2014) – The plan update for the Bicycle Program will include prioritization criteria for the on-street bikeway network and better integrate the on-street bikeway network with urban trails, transit and other regional projects.
Updating these plans together will allow for a more connected system to give you more choices for how you travel. That brings us closer to achieving the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan (ASMP) goal of increasing how many people walk, bike or take transit. Sign up now to attend the first public meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11.
UT Students: Donate unwanted items during MoveOutATX
The City's annual MoveOutATXevent is coming to West Campus July 24-25 and 29-31. University students can drop off their unwanted furniture, electronics, clothing, and more at donation stations in the area from 12 to 7 p.m. each day. Partner reuse organizations will collect these materials and put them back into the community for reuse.
