Top 3 reasons why you should move to Calgary—the most liveable city in Canada

Mention Canada and you will no doubt think of beautiful natural landscapes, maple syrup, moose, and ice hockey. While Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal are often touted as the most popular cities in the country, the results of a newly released report might surprise you!

The Economist’s Intelligence Unit (EIU) released its annual Global Liveability Index, and Canada’s Calgary ranks as the most liveable city in North America and the fifth most liveable city in the world. Read on to find out why Calgary is a city you should move to.
1. Calgary is clean and close to nature

Nature lovers, assemble! Combining the hiking and walking trails located within the world-famous Banff National Park, Rocky Mountains, Lake Louise, and Horseshoe Canyon, the region has hundreds of miles of natural wonders to explore. The city of Calgary also offers an extensive system of hiking trails through city parks and greenways, where both water and mountain views are plentiful.
2. Affordable while maintaining a higher-than-average household income

In Calgary, the median family income for 2018 was $102,570 (before tax), which is the highest median total family income of all census metropolitan areas. Considering that the province of Alberta has no provincial sales tax, provincial general capital tax, or municipal sales tax, Calgarians are allowed to save more than anywhere else in Canada!
3. Job opportunities, schools, entertainment—the city has it all

Calgary tops Vancouver and Toronto when it comes to the highest quality of living. It was also ranked as the “Best City for Youth to Work In” by Youthful Cities in 2021 and the “Top Five Best Cities for Families” by Today’s Parent magazine. Given that the cost and expenses of pursuing higher education in Calgary are much lower as compared to developed cities in Canada, Calgary will undoubtedly continue to attract numerous young professionals and families.
So, should you invest in Calgary?

According to IRCC, Alberta is the third most popular destination for new immigrates. With Calgary being the biggest city in the province, it has the highest population growth rate among other cities in Canada. Properties in Calgary now have a benchmark price of CAD$458,300, and it has increased by 11.4 percent YoY along with an average rental yield of five to seven percent (great for investors). Alberta also does not have a land transfer tax for foreign buyers or even local Canadians. Hence, Calgary is considered one of the best cities to invest in!
