Nostalgia, hugs and strategy

Hello,

Nice to be back in your inbox again.

I hope this newsletter is more a little more appealing than all those other work and spam emails.

Grab a cuppa, and before I get onto our content of the week, you should know I have two, yes TWO extra special announcements!

I'll share one with you later this week, and the other one is....

Comms Creatives content of the week!

We have a nice little Welsh theme this time.

(Let's call it content of the month, because I spotted these a few weeks ago.)

Big up to my Cymru crew!

South Wales Police

TWEET: South Wales Police @swpolice · Jul 26 Billy Spiller was a Glamorgan police officer for over thirty years. While in police service, Billy gained recognition in the sports of rugby and cricket. He won a Grand Slam with @WelshRugbyUnion in 1911 and later represented @GlamCricket in the County Championship. 👮‍♂️🏉🏏 [VIDEO]
Yes they need to promote services, and catch criminals, but it's nice to hear the STORIES from this organisation that makes such a difference to people's lives in South Wales.

How you might use this as creative inspiration for your social media?

This is a classic 'nostalgia post', which we discuss on the Social Media Expert Course.

Tapping into people's memories and sense of how life used to be is POWERFUL.

Have a dig around in your vaults, or ask some of your veteran employees if you have any interesting stories or heroes you can share with your audience.

Welsh Rugby Union

TWEET: Welsh Rugby Union 🏉 @WelshRugbyUnion · Jul 30 "Thank you, mate. I love you." ❤️ On #InternationalDayOfFriendship, why not pass the message on to a friend? [VIDEO OF players hugging]
Sometimes the simple things are the best. The key to why this is good is that is shows emotions.

Too often, brands forget the word 'social' in social media, and that many of us aren't there for a lecture. We're thumbing through content looking for that little good feeling, or something that makes us smile.

To enjoy this, I don't need to understand anything about Welsh Rugby Union (which I don't).

I just have my mood lifted seeing two pals having a hug. Or a cwtch as we call it here in Wales. It's relatable.

How you might use this as creative inspiration for your social media?

First, find a bit of content you have to do with your brand, something that makes you smile.

Then find a national day that will be a good excuse to share that clip.

Voilà!

There are loads of national days, and if you join us for Creative Content Bootcamp, you get free access to our annual calendar with all the days and handy content templates.

Two cool events coming up...

Both of these events are designed to inspire and drive action! It's not just theory, you'll be working while you learn.

Comms Cartoons

Loads of followers is no triumph if they're all ignoring you.

Sometimes our colleagues don't understand that a large audience means nothing if the content is boring to them, or if you never have an actual conversation.

A small, engaged community beats a big audience who are all ignoring you.  Every. Time.

Bye for now,
Hel Reynolds
