COVID-19 Update: Wear Masks Indoors
Since Monday, Aug. 2, face coverings are required in all indoor spaces on campus for students, faculty, staff and visitors, regardless of vaccination status. Read about NC State's updated COVID-19 plans for fall here.
Coin For Exceptional Service
In early January 2021 there was a flooding incident in the basement of Bragaw Residence Hall due to a failed backflow preventer that resulted in water that rose five feet and damaged the transformers, service conductors, panel boards, feeders and disconnects associated with the main electrical distribution system of the building.  A team of Housing staff, Building Maintenance and Operations staff, Capital Project Management, and Environmental Health and Safety determined the best approach to repair the system. Mike Baker, the project manager with Capital Project Management quickly hired the designer, NV5, expedited the design and review process, worked with the utility staff to write specifications for the pre-purchase of the equipment so it could be manufactured and arrive in time, and managed the contractor on site to assure the building would be up and running by the fall semester. A new electrical room was created on the first floor to avoid any further issues in the basement, as well as improving safety by combining two electrical services into one. The project was completed on schedule, and turned back over to Housing in early July so they can prepare for students to re-populate the building. The total project cost was as projected, and luckily the project avoided any of the current issues with supply chain, material shortages, and labor cost increases.
Safety Repairs By Carpentry Shop
The Carpentry Shop recently repaired rotting wood beams on the pergolas located on the west side of the Oval. To replace each, the 8’ x 8’ structural beams were notched at each end to fit around a metal rod, leaving space for water drainage. A lift was used to move each of the 14 heavy beams into place. Compliments to Mark Livesay, Derrick Reddish, and Tom Twining for a job well done!
Stay Current With Safety Trainings
Facilities Human Resources concluded their safety training requirements by participating in the Fire Extinguisher and CPR/First Aid training. They learned the proper way to administer CPR and how to safely extinguish a fire amongst other important topics. Participants were Joey Brooks, Maria Lioudis, Michelle Jones, Angela Ward, Keta Williams and Stella Carrington.
