2. Knysna Oyster Festival “Limited Edition” – feedback / debrief
This week we shared a survey for feedback on this year’s Knysna Oyster Festival “Limited Edition”.

Yesterday, we hosted a steering committee meeting for feedback opportunity from each of the sector representatives:  a summary report is currently being collated.  Again, thank you to all the sector leaders and everyone involved.

Feedback already garnered is that “there was great community engagement and commitment, even if just in the programme planning before Level 4 lockdown was implemented and unfortunately many activations had to be pulled.  It was encouraging that the community worked together towards the programme of offerings.”

Conversations have started towards next year’s event, with priority being to try secure sponsorships – if anyone has any leads?
3. Knysna Interactive Art Project – Sedgefield ‘Love Bug’ Beetle
One of the items that unfortunately had to be removed from the Knysna Oyster Festival Programme was “Sedgefield Day” – which included the launch of the ‘Love Bug’ Beetle.  However, the mosaic work has been happening behind the scenes and waiting for the removal of Level 4 in order to continue onsite towards the unveiling of this exciting landmark selfie location.  This week’s media feature was on the work that has taken place “behind the scenes” towards the final execution.  Read more here

Work is also continuing on the updating of the “Mosaic Route (Tour) Map”.  The updated edition will be launched with the unveiling of the ‘Love Bug’.

4. Sho’t Left Campaign – September Month, with South African Tourism

5. TERS update
On 16 July, the Minister of Employment and Labour signed the Direction, as shared here, for UIF to be implemented for currently affected sectors.  Applications opened on 19 July and payments will commence on 26 July.

Please see SATSA’s update for further guidance on the process UIF to start paying COVID-19 TERS benefits directly to workers
6. Impact evaluation of COVID-19 on the tourism sector
The Department of Tourism has contracted HS BUSINESS SOLUTIONS to conduct an impact evaluation of COVID-19 on the tourism sector. Kindly forward the link/questionnaire to tourism businesses on your databases. The outcomes of the impact evaluation will assist the department in developing appropriate strategies, interventions and plans that will seek to support tourism enterprises, especially small, micro and medium enterprises.
