Introducing: The Discovery Series

Hello, fellow wine lovers!

We are plugging away like the little engine that could and are just a few weeks from showcasing our brand-new private event and wine experience room!

In the meantime, we are thrilled to introduce the latest set of wine discoveries in precisely that format.

Each of these three-bottle sets takes you on a deep dive into either a varietal or a region's under-discovered gems.

When we built these packages, we constructed them with you in mind. They're easy-to-digest trios with a wealth of experience behind them, and each bottle has its write-up attached (quite literally tied to the bottle). In those write-ups, you'll find the histories behind the grape varietal, region, producer, and most importantly, I've included personal tasting notes and wine pairings so you can imbibe like the pros.

A side note. Though I do this for a living, I'm often buried in work and hurried, as I'm sure many of you are. Because of that, I've included pairings that span the gamut between dishes you could cook yourself, seek out on a night out, or find at a nearby business for delicious take-out.

You'll want in on the Discovery Series if you are:

  • A hard-to-please wine enthusiast looking for more nuance.

  • An adventurer looking to travel via their palate.

  • Someone who has "wine snob" friends (or family) and can't wait to show them up.

  • A person who needs a thoughtful gift for the wine lover in their life.

  • Stuck in a rut with your current wine tastes and want a curated way to discover new wines and wine regions.

  • Looking to travel soon and want to brush up on local European wines.

  • A curious gentleperson looking to discover… anything!

  • About to have an in-person gathering soon and need something to bring. Ahem, this is your perfect ice breaker. Take it to dinner, to happy hour, and take one home to your spouse. When the human interactions get awkward, there are always a million things to talk about with wine (now you know our secret).

Take Me There!

Discover…

Italian White Wine: Alto Adige, Montecucco, and Sicilia $46. Italy boasts the most native varietals globally (numbered in the thousands!), and sometimes diving into learning about Italian wines is the most daunting step. We cut down the steps for you and separated these in terms of geography. You'll taste and discover the white wine from the Dolomite Mountains bordering Austria, find out that Tuscany makes delicious whites, and feel like you're at the beach when you get to Sicily's white wine in the south. Please read the articles first; you'll want to get some snacks when you dive into your first tastes. Click here for more!

Skin Contact Wines $75. Fans of the flaw? These producers are and are proud of it. Where stodgy wine persons (I'm guilty of this!) will turn their noses from time to time on these wines, they've gained an international following, and for a good reason. The ethos behind these wines is what draws people. The thought that beauty or true expression of terroir (not hiding behind "bad vintages," etc.) is finding out what the wine becomes … regardless of certain technical flaws, is a bold thing indeed. Now, there are so many debates on this stuff that it'll make your head spin, so we suggest that you try it for yourself. This package is an easy way to discover a whole different set of wine and philosophy all at once, so if you're wary, get a set and bring it to your next gathering to share among friends (don't forget to chill it first!). Take a deep dive here.

Spanish Red Varietals $58: Graciano, Hondarribi Zuri, and Mencía.We know you love Rioja (we do too!), but here's a deep dive into lesser-known varietals from Spain that'll recapture a new youth within your wine-loving heart. We say "new youth" because, like life, what was once, now is again. These are old varietals from sacred places, and they're celebrated again. Learn the varietals and their regions like a pro here, and trust us, especially for paella season; you won't regret this. No regrets, this direction.

Sauvignon Blanc $54. No, not from New Zealand or Sancerre. You know those already. We're talking serious Sauvignon Blanc from Bordeaux, an NZ alternative in the Sud-Ouest of France (not kidding), and a mineral-laden stunner from Italy's Friuli Colli Orientali. We don't know who should try this more, the lover of Sauvignon Blanc or the person who loves "unoaked Chardonnay." As you'll see when you purchase the set, the fruit is in a class of its own in this trio. Fun, this way.

French Rosé $84. There's a reason this one is pricey. It's from heavy-hitting rosé wine regions in France. Bandol, Burgundy, and the Rhône Valley. If your eyebrows raise, great. Keep on going! From Burgundy, we include Marsannay Rosé, the only appellated rosé in Burgundy. And from the Rhône, well, it's not a Tavel rosé; it's Gigondas Rosé- which is a thing. Not a common one, it makes up only about 1% of production! If you're a self-professed "wine snob," this is already in your cart. If you're not, you should 100% get this to treat yourself. It's been a heck of a couple of years, and this will lift your spirits (don't worry, absolutely none of these are sweet). Living your best life, one click away.

Sangiovese: Umbria, Romagna, Toscana $63. Sangiovese isn’t just Chianti, Chianti Classico, Brunello, and a blend of Super Tuscan wines. Promise. Not that there's anything wrong with any of those wines (we love them too), they're just more well-known. We're about to take you off-the-beaten-path here. We're going inland and then east. More rustic, more food-friendly, and a snapshot of how versatile the grape can be. Authenticity over here!
