A Message from Rev. Bob
Hello Grace and St Peter’s,
It’s summertime and I know we are all supposed to be lolling by a lake, kicking back in a remote mountain cabin, or enjoying a John Grisham thriller by the seashore. But this is amazing Grace and St Peter’s parish, so don’t expect more than a week or two to go by without something new and exciting taking place.
Here’s some fun news for this week:
1) Our new grand piano moved into the sanctuary on Monday. It looks and sounds great. Be careful, though, as you walk by it down the east aisle of the sanctuary. The clearance there is a bit tight and we will be addressing that issue shortly. I’ll be putting a protective cover on the piano soon. Meanwhile, please don’t put anything on top of it. And, if anyone has a black piano bench at home that they are not using, we could certainly put it to good use at G&SP.
2) We have arranged for a third(!) Dinner for a Dollar site on the east side of Hamden. A building owner on State Street is generously allowing us to use his driveway and parking lot for dinner distribution (like the drive thru version of D4$ at G&SP). We will begin dinner service there sometime next month in collaboration with Community Soup Kitchen of New Haven.
And then there’s our regular amazing programming:
Jesus’ Kingship of Kinship will meet on Monday evening, July 26. This will be our last session with George Black (at least for now). Please join us. We will then take the month of August off and return in September to discern where we want to go from here. As well, our Faith Study group will meet on Tuesday evening, July 27. See below for details.
Finally, a reminder: This Sunday is a fourth Sunday of the month. Brian Gray will preside and preach at Morning Prayer beginning at 9AM. Please come out to join with our community in prayer, praise and worship, and to support Brian and our other Parish Worship Leaders in their ministry.

FAITH STUDY GROUP
A New Program!
The next Faith Study Group meeting is Tuesday, July 27

Again and as always, all are welcome!
Our next program will be returning to Bible study involving the actual text of the scripture, with a focus on the gospel story and Jesus’s call to us, especially as we are hearing it more clearly through “Manna and Mercy” and the parish’s ongoing exploration of Jesus’s Kingship of Kinship.
We have chosen the Kerygma series on the parables. All are welcome to join. If you would like to be on the Faith Study email list for reminders of meetings, please contact Gretchen Pritchard at 203-624-2520 or sundaypaper@snet.net. The group is always open to anyone who would like to take part.
This Bible study program calls for every participant to have a copy of its “resource book.” If you would like to order your own copy from the web site, please do so. Gretchen will buy the leader kit and also order extra copies of the resource book so there will be some on hand for people who may join the conversation along the way.

HORIZONS SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM HAS 80 SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS IN NEW HAVEN AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES
- FREE program hosted at Albertus Magnus College July 19 - August 13
- 80 spots available for Rising 1st through 4th grade students
- All day program from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided
- Focus on academics, enrichment, play, arts, and culture- program materials provided
Horizons is offering an incredible, FREE opportunity for New Haven public school students to join four weeks of academics, art, play, and field trips! Horizons at Albertus Magnus College is an award-winning summer learning program for 80 students in rising 1st through 4th grade who are eligible for free and reduced lunch. After a difficult year of school due to COVID, NOW is the time for parents to take advantage of summer learning programs to accelerate recovery.
Registration fee is $25 and can be waived based on financial circumstances. The program runs daily from 8:30am-3pm, Monday-Friday on the campus of Albertus Magnus College. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided, along with all program materials, and a t-shirt. Preference of enrollment will be given to students eligible for free and reduced lunch. There are 80 spots available, and participants are asked to attend all program dates in full.
With some students facing up to a year’s worth of learning loss, summer learning programs like Horizons are more important than ever to help students recover academically, mentally, and emotionally. Horizons students join a joyful learning community dedicated to helping them succeed and discover their passions, and return each summer until 8th grade, forming long-term relationships with their teachers and peers. Horizons classrooms are grounded in best practices in youth development, and teachers create their curriculum based on the needs and interests of their students. Horizons students consistently gain 8-12 weeks of reading and math skills over the typical 6-week summer session, and show more positive attitudes toward learning, themselves, and their peers.
Horizons at Albertus Magnus College is an affiliate of Horizons National, whose mission is to advance educational equity by building long-term partnerships with students, families, communities, and schools to create experiences outside of school that inspire the joy of learning.

Peacebuilding Online Project
EPF will host a series of online 1-hr presentations the first Sunday of each month starting in August on different aspects of and approaches to peacebuilding, both with others and within ourselves. We will meet via Eventbrite/Zoom at 4 pm Eastern Time. Please plan to attend as many of our programs as you can, bring a friend, and ask your congregation and diocese to publicize our programs each month. Hear inspiring voices. Learn. PRAYERS
We pray for our ministries at Arden House and Whitney Manor. We pray for our Friday night dinner ministry. We pray for the ministry of Christian Community Action in New Haven, and the families they serve. We pray for our own parish of Grace and St. Peter's.
We pray for those in need of healing: Earl, Owen, Fran, Fiona, Marion, Cassie, Ed, Debbie, Elsie, Chukky, Alicia and Onyii. We pray for those who mourn, and have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble.
Joining the Episcopal Church of Connecticut in the cycle of prayer, we pray for: our own church of Grace and St. Peter’s; Christ Church, Roxbury; St. John’s, Salisbury; Trinity, Seymour; and Christ Church, Sharon. We pray for parish office volunteers; curates; seminary interns; parish assistants and associates; missional curacies.
