Activities Planned at Welk Homestead State Historic Site
BISMARCK, N.D. – Activities planned for August at the Welk Homestead State Historic Site near Strasburg include a blacksmith demonstration, an outdoor painting class, and kite flying. Events are free and open to the public unless indicated otherwise.
Aug. 7 Blacksmith Demonstration. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Bob McCay, an amateur blacksmith from Bismarck, will share his knowledge of the craft. A blacksmith for more than 10 years, he enjoys teaching and demonstrating these skills to the public.
Aug. 14 Plein Air Painting Class. 1-4 p.m. Visual artist Linda Roesch will lead an outdoor painting class. Participants will learn basic acrylic painting techniques and create a scene to take home. Class members will be inspired by the landscape and history that surround the historic site to create a calm country scene. The class is open to school-age children and adults. Children must be accompanied by an adult. A $20 participation fee includes all supplies. Aug. 28 Party With the Monarchs. 1-3 p.m. An afternoon of fun will include kite flying and crafts related to butterflies.
The Welk Homestead, located at 845 88th St. SE, Strasburg, is a state historic site managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
