Farewell to Mike Stansbury

In January the Board of Directors of the Kingdom Builder Foundation will say farewell to Mike Stansbury, who stepped down from his role as Director of Donor Development. Mike was one of the founders of KBF over 16 years ago, helping to create the organization and its operating principles, as well as developing the marketing and granting materials. He served on the Board for many years, providing outstanding leadership and a commitment to the KBF Mission and Vision. For the last 7 years Mike has served in the position of Director of Donor Development, sharing his passion for KBF by reaching out to SBPC families to guide them in developing a legacy plan to designate KBF in their will or trust. Through his efforts, KBF pledges and assets have grown significantly, allowing us, to date, to award grants in excess of $1,500,00 to Kingdom ministries. The KBF Board is greatly indebted to his dedication to our organization and to the Kingdom.

Grantee - Word of Life Hungary
Interview with Word of Life Hungary - Grantee

Word of Life Hungary currently has three major areas of outreach. The first is summer camp, where each summer over 1,000 Hungarian young people hear the Gospel, and every year hundreds respond. There is a two-year Bible Institute, with a total enrollment of about 80 students. In addition, Word of Life Bible Clubs operate in churches across Hungary.

How did you initially hear about KBF?
Word of Life Hungary has a good relationship with Solana Beach Presbyterian Church. We heard of Kingdom Builder Foundation from them.

How was your experience applying for the grant?
It was very easy and simple. This is my first time ever applying for something like this. I imagined it to be way more complicated.

How did you use the funds?
We have a summer camp where our motto is something like this: "We don't want anyone not to come because of money!" We used the funds to either give discounts or even let campers come for free if needed.

Any advice for someone looking to apply for a grant?
Kingdom Builder Foundation's help was a huge answer to prayers. Anyone who is looking to apply my advice is: Pray, trust the Lord, but make sure that you do your part in it.

Grant Follow Up: Village Outreach Program

Was the grant used for the stated purpose?

Yes the grant was used to hire, train and mentor 8 new Village Outreach Program workers, as stated in our purpose.

Describe the impact of the grant/program in general.

Including the 8 workers that the Kingdom Builders grant has been supporting, here are 34 VOP workers in all, each working in 3 villages. (102 villages total)

Small worshipping groups are being planted and mentored in 102 villages in Sindh. They are taught the Bible stories chronologically in their mother tongue and are worshipping in their cultural style. They are learning who God is, His love for them and how He wants them to live. Using the story-telling method they discuss the meaning of the stories and how they apply to their lives, then they make decisions as to how they will obey what they have learned.

Each village has formed a Self Help Group. These groups are used to save money for village projects, run the small house ‘churches’, plan the village’s development, mediate disputes and grow unity. This helps form and cement the community.

Basic health lessons help the villagers learn cleanliness and hygiene. This helps them financially, as they are healthier and don’t have to spend so much on doctors fees and medicines. It also helps to counteract some of the destructive superstitions that they have grown up believing with regards to the causes and cure of diseases.

How have you seen God working in your ministry?

Every month when we have the training sessions, it is a joy to hear the testimonies of what God is doing in and through the workers. We see spiritual growth in the workers from month to month and watch them face difficult challenges as they are now spiritual leaders in their communities.

With COVID the program had to be stopped for two months, but praise God the government relaxed restrictions and most of the year we have been able to carry on our work with appropriate precautions.

How can we pray for you and your ministry and support you in the future?

Things in Pakistan are getting more difficult. The government used to let us do our work with very little interference. Now they want to know everything we are doing. Some of our workers, even though they are believers, still have a different religious affiliation on their national identity card. Because of this we have stopped having their monthly training altogether here at the Audio visual Centre. Instead we are doing the training in several different churches in their areas where the workers live. Pray for us to get the documentation passes that are needed to be able to receive funds from abroad easily.

Pray for wisdom, courage and protection of our workers as they continue to mentor their groups in the villages.

Pray for the finances needed for the Audio Visual Centre work as a whole and the VOP project in specific.
