Announcing: the second cohort of THE BIG LEARN

I am a part of the first cohort of The Big Learn. The self-interrogation and learning I developed through the program has transformed the way I work and show up in Indie Theater spaces, and every other space I enter. In partnership with Indie Theater Fund/IndieSpace, the NY Innovative Theater Awards (NYITA), and Partake Arts, the League of Independent Theater is excited to announce the second cohort of the The Big Learn-a series of Anti Racism trainings for independent theater makers and small companies. Our goal is to create space for anti-racist learning, training, and community healing that will address the needs of the large and diverse community of “downtown” and “indie” theater artists living and working in New York City. These group trainings will provide a place for individual artists that do not have a home company to train with and/or for small companies without a budget for this type of work. We know that many in our community have been doing this work for some time and others of us are brand new to it. Through personal reflection, group discussion, and interactive learning activities, Cohort B will work to identify the responsibilities and capacities we all have to push against these systems and create better ones, both on the macro and micro level.

This long term training will include sessions led by Jodie Geddes and Tom DeWolf of Coming to the Table and Nicole Brewer of Conscientious Theatre Training. Support for these sessions is provided by Brea Clemons (Indie Theater Fund/IndieSpace), Akia Squitieri (New York Innovative Theater Awards), Katie Palmer and Aimee Todoroff (League of Independent Theater), and Ann Marie Lonsdale (Partake Arts). Additional support provided by Randi Berry of Indie Theater Fund/IndieSpace.

Pod Dates/Times for Cohort B:
You will be asked to join one of these weekly pod offerings and attend for small group discussions and work in between the group sessions.

Pod 1: Sundays, 9PM to 10PM (9/26, 10/3, 10/17, 10/24)
Pod 2: Tuesdays, 6:30PM to 7:00PM (9/28, 10/5, 10/19, 10/26)
Pod 3: Fridays, 12:30PM to 1:30PM (9/24, 10/1, 10/15, 10,22)
Pod 4: Tuesdays, 10:30AM to 11:30AM (9/28, 10/5, 10/19, 10/26)
