Macon County Public Library will be hosting some NC author talks/book signings 
in the library at the end of the month and September. There is one on July 31st, Susan Meissner, and on September 4Th, Kristin Harmel. 

Car Seat Clinic Monday-Friday 8am-4pm closed 12-1 for lunch. Clinics will be held in the Beloced Woman's and Children's Building 73 kaiser Wilnoty rd in Cherokee. Children Must be present and your EBCI enrollment card for both Parent and Child's. Car seat cost $20 for seats 

“Dillsboro After Five” will take place from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays in downtown Dillsboro. Start with a visit to the Jackson County Farmers Market located in the Innovation Station parking lot.


 Blue Ridge Parkway rangers will host a new outdoor interpretive series dubbed “Fridays at the Folk Art Center” at 7:30 p.m. every Friday this season at the Folk Art Center in Asheville. The building will not be open during the programs, with no restrooms available on site. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on.  828.298.5330, ext. 302.

Look at the history of Appalachian music with a Blue Ridge Parkway ranger to guide the way at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 23, during this week’s Fridays at the Folk Art Center session. The Folk Art Center is located at Milepost 382 on the Parkway. No restrooms will be available during this outdoor program. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. 

Concerts on the Creek (Sylva) at Bridge Park will host Arnold Hill (rock) July 30

The Glenville Area Historical Society annual Ice Cream Social will take place Saturday, July 31, at the Historic Glenville Wesleyan Church. Hiking:

Haywood County Parks and Recreation will guide a hike on Flat Laurel Creek Loop at 8 a.m. July 31. The hike will be led by Vickey Watson and Phyllis Woollen. Nantahala Hiking Club will hike to  Betty Creek to Yellow Patch on Sunday,  Aug. 1. Hike south on the Appalachian Trail to an over-look and see Picken’s Nose.  Gem & Mineral Museum located in the Old Jail on Phillips Street in downtown Franklin is now open Fridays and Saturdays from 12 to 4 p.m.,  featuring gems and artifacts from North Carolina as well as all over the world.

Historic TM Rickman Store is now open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Located at 259 Cowee Creek Road in the historic West -Mill District. Music Jams  begin at noon.

Holly Springs Baptist Church, 2nd Mile Ministry is open 10 to Noon Mondays providing a food pantry, children's clothes and financial aid (rent and utilities) for families and seniors in need. 

Friends of the Greenway  FROG Quarters is now open Wednesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to  2 p.m.,  at 573 E. Main in Franklin. Stop by for coffee or a soft drink and a snack, use our free internet.  You can also reserve the shelters for your events there.

Smoky Mountain Pregnancy Care Centers in Cullowhee and Franklin have an educational parenting program to earn “points” to use to obtain free items for your family. The centers carry formula, diapers, wipes, baby items and clothing up to size 6, as well as strollers, car seats, high chairs, pack n’ plays, etc. Donations are always welcome. CareNet on Bidwell Street will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A box of food may be picked up once a week.

Uptown Gallery on Main Street new hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Five Fire Departments in Macon County – Nantahala, Cullasaja, Sky Valley, Clarks Chapel, and Burningtown – are open Monday thru Fridays for drive up food deliveries from 1 to 4 p.m. for anyone who needs food.

Employment assistance is offered by NC Works Career Center from 1:30-4 p.m. on the first Friday of every month at Marianna Black Library in Bryson City. 488.3030 or

Macon County Public Health is currently vaccinating those eligible under Groups 4. People in Group 4  are those who have a medical condition that puts them at higher risk of serious illness and people who live in certain congregate settings are eligible for vaccination. The rest of Group 4, which includes all other essential workers and all adults will become eligible April 7. Individuals that want to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, must call Macon County’s Vaccine Call Center at (828)524-1500 to register and schedule an appointment. The Call Center is open Monday – Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All Saints Episcopal Church, Franklin  Services are held Rite I, 8 a.m. without music and Rite II,  10:15 a.m. with music, every Sunday.
