SYDNEY, July 23 (Reuters) - Australia's New South Wales state on Friday reported its biggest daily rise in new COVID-19 cases this year, prompting a tighter lockdown in Sydney in what state officials called a "national emergency" that has already derailed a broad economic rebound.
State Premier Gladys Berejiklian also raised the likelihood that stay-home orders for the country's biggest city would be extended beyond the current end-date of July 30.
Breaking news: NCJWA Days for Girls was awarded a grant from Woollhara Council for our Scale Project – Students Change a Life Easily. Vast numbers of young women are missing school through a lack of sanitary care. Our goal in this project is to educate school students in the Woollahra catchment about the dire repercussions of period poverty by creating reusable sanitary pads and developing their understanding of social diversity worldwide.
We invite you to view The Keeping Women Out of Prison Coalition (KWOOP) website. KWOOP is calling for an urgent review of sentencing laws as the rate of women in prison has increased by over 50% in only six years.

Join NCJWA VIC for a very special opportunity to hear the 2021 Mina Fink lecturer Elana Rubin AM. Elana is Chair of Afterpay, and a Director of Telstra and Slater & Gordon, as well as several unlisted companies and Victorian government authorities.
She is a strong believer in organisations with purpose and has a deep commitment to culture, diversity, social equity, and participation.
"I am absolutely passionate about diversity. And it's in its broadest sense. And not just women, but more broadly. And our corporations, whether they be private sector, public sector, not for profit, would all be better if they reflected more of our community." (Elana Rubin AM, Take on Board podcast).
Elana will be speaking about the importance of empowering women in all aspects of life; from why gender equality is critical in leadership to the need for financial literacy for all women. Unfortunately, many examples of Gender Inequality have been in the news this year making our lecture topic particularly relevant. Helen Silver AO, Allianz Australia’s Chief General Manager, Corporate Governance and Conduct, will lead the conversation with Elana about empowering women in the boardroom, business and beyond. Thursday, 29 July 2021 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm Free via Zoom

In our collective memory, the TANAKH is abundant with violent stories of war and conquest executed by men. In these stories, the role of women is often marginal, and they are mostly presented as victims.
In this presentation, we shall engage in gender and feminist reading of the biblical stories of deadly and combatant female protagonists who kill the enemy’s hero, by focusing on the extraordinary narrative of Yael killing Sisera (Judges 4: 15-22 & 5:24-30)
