St David's Minister's Missive

Dear St David's Church Family💒

This Sunday is our pulpit swap and we are delighted to welcome Rev Radhika Sukumar-White from our neighbour Leichhardt UC church. We will be stepping out of the lectionary this Sunday and Radhika will be preaching on Matthew 11:25-30 and our reading from the Hebrew Bible will be Psalm 23. As well as pre-recording her sermon for us she has also pre-recorded all our songs this week. Thank you Radhika!

25th July 2021 Yr B Pentecost 9

I have pre-recorded my sermon for Balmain UC and so I will be leading our service as usual, with the fabulous support of Phil and John, who make the livestream happen, and this week Chris W, who will be leading our prayers and Ron, who will be doing our readings. Please join us this Sunday on livestream through our Facebook page. We look forward to seeing you there!

Here are the things that I would like to pass on to you this week:

Bread Drop! - Chris W has joined the team and is busy advertising our Kindness Cupboard and Bread Drop in the broader community. Thank you Chris! Our first bread drop took place last week and the next bread drop will be this Tuesday 27th July at lunch time. Thank you to those of you who have already advertised this great project to your networks.

Morning Prayer and Communion Service - it is with great excitement (and relief that it all worked!) that we had our first morning prayer on Zoom this week. It certainly doesn't replace being together in person but it was wonderful to be able to see each other again and spend some time praying, meditating to Taize music and having a chat about the gospel passage. If you would like to be part of this, please let me know and I will send you the link as well. All are welcome. 9.30am Wednesday.

Wednesday night Bible Study Group is also via Zoom at the moment. If you would like to be part of that, please contact David or me for more information.

Ellen at the Olympics! - Please pray for Ellen who is now at the Olympics in Tokyo with the Australian rowing team. Thinking of you Ellen 🙏

Mission of the church - please continue to pray for our work leading the children in Godly Play each Tuesday, during term time at Haberfield Public School (this is on hold during lockdown) ; for the work of The Ella Centre; and for Lenka as she prepares to start a playgroup for children living with a disability.

Prayers for local churches - This week, please pray for the people and mission of the Baptist Church

Joy's day off - Friday (if something urgent comes up, please don't hesitate to contact me)

Dates for the diary: -Sunday 1st August - Communion / Church Council meeting

Story-time - Hello to our St David's kids! Dominic, Matilda, Harry, Frank, Sophie, Edie, Ella, Aiden, River, Sacha, Eli and Elise. Our story this week is called 'One Lost Sheep' by Rhonda Gowler Greene. Phil will be reading our story for us again (thanks Phil!). We look forward to having you join us via livestream 😊

This week's photos include: this week's story book; Ellen in Tokyo with her brother, Andrew; Kaye's latest vegan creation - hashbrown with mushrooms, spinach and green goddess sauce!; Belinda and Dominic; our first bread drop at the Kindness Cupboard; our first zoom morning prayer.

If you have any photos that you would like to share in the missive, please pass them on to me.

This week's prayer is a poem by Steve Garnass-Holmes called 'Child of the earth':

Child of earth, may you find within you
the humility of the grass,
the wisdom of the river,
patience of the mountain,
the generosity of the trees.

May you see with eyes of gratitude
the peace of the sunrise within you,
the beauty of the blossoming earth,
the joy of the bird on the wing.

May the fresh breeze of hope bless you,
the earth's steadfastness sustain you,
and the mystery of all living things enfold you.

May each moment of your life be a new day dawning,
and the sun and moon and stars
dance around you
and in you
every day of your life.

Amen

Wherever you are and whoever you are, you are welcome here.

"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it."

With love, hope, peace and

Joy💒
