$6.3 million in funding for 23 circular economy projects

The Victorian Government will provide $6.3 million in grants to 23 projects as part of CEBIC's first funding round, including 12 food waste projects.

The projects will design out waste and extend the life and value of products and materials. Some will do this by launching new products and services, while others will test out innovations and contribute new circular business ideas.

A huge shout out to all the businesses and collaborative partnerships who applied - we were so proud of all the considered and inspiring funding bids.

CEBIC projects on the path to halving food waste

Victoria's fight against food waste is only ramping up with 12 food projects funded through CEBIC's first grant round.

These projects are a testament to the collective impact we can have, and will:

  • implement solutions to reduce or recycle food waste by 50,280 tonnes each year
  • contribute to 4.2% toward Victoria’s target to halve food waste by 2030
  • identify, develop and trial solutions to reduce an additional 693,000 tonnes of food waste each year.

Earlier this year we released the Path to Half - a report highlighting opportunities for Victorian businesses to slash food waste. If you haven't already, jump into the report and join the fight against food waste.

Textiles focus announced with style

Last week, CEBIC's year two focus area - textiles, was launched at a special event hosted by the Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI).

By tackling textiles – from clothing, footwear and furnishings to industrial textiles and fibres – CEBIC can help actualise the dual benefits of a circular economy, including reduced environmental harm and economic growth. We'll address this in true CEBIC style by bringing business, industry, government and community together through grants, events and information sharing.

The Circular Stories Guide, by the Circular Stories Working Group, was also launched at the event. The guide will help the Australian textile, clothing and footwear industry to explore circular economy opportunities.
